This is sad as hell… I still saw him at Pink Pop last summer and was stunned not only by his awesome guitar work but also his vocals and just the overall music and performance… Only The Good Die Young I suppose : (

I hadn’t cried for ages, but just now I was watching his live performance of Still Got The Blues and simply couldn’t contain myself, and I’m still having difficulties. I’m confused, as I wasn’t even a close fan and didn’t know that much about Gary Moore, even though the show I saw got me hooked and I was looking forward to picking up his albums and seeing him perform live again, if only a few times. I’m also confused because I sure felt bad when I first read it, and it’s only really hitting me now two days after it happened. I’m the first to accept death for what it is if I feel someone managed to get the most out of his live, but, being only 58, I think there was still a long way ahead for Gary himself and everyone who liked his music, which just makes me extremely sad.
It’s just Gary is the first artist I was actively following that died (ashamed to say but I only got to know Dio after he died) so I have no idea how to deal with it, ‘cos I don’t think anyone directly around me will understand. I’ve had family deaths (who hasn’t) but there I feel you’ve kinda gone through the process after the funeral. I’m not going to get depressed over this of course, but it’s something new, and it scares me ‘cos I haven’t felt so bad over anything for a long time (I manage to relativize almost anything) no idea how to deal with it.

Aw, bad times :( I guess I can empathise, remembering how I felt when Kurt Cobain died - complete shock and real grief which lasted a long time.
I think what you said about the process/ ritual of a funeral is interesting, and perhaps you could set aside some time to yourself to really think about Gary Moore and what he meant to you, maybe just while listening to an album, as a way of processing your emotions and privately saying goodbye.

I’m hoping Thin Lizzy pay him a good tribute when they play in Belfast next week - I’ll very disappointed (and surprised) if they don’t.

FIONA ,i dont rally think its a mystery ,it just means your human ,and you have to go through what the experts call the greiving process ,how you react to trauma makes you what you are ,and in your lifetime you will go through this process several times but hopefully not to many ,cry if it helps and as each day goes by it will get better and eventually you will come out of it a better person ,its just my take on death ,i hope it helps

I really regret never seeing him live. Was always skint or busy when he came near to me but I always thought I’d be able to at some point!
Thin LIzzy’s January gig in Manchester focussed a lot on paying tribute to Phil so I would imagine they’d do something for Gary as well in Belfast.
