Why 2 new versions Magic Mountain, and not the full 20 minute ‘mega’ version they were yapping on about at the release of the original CD

Bought it today. Have to give it a good listen. Wasn’t going to buy it, but the pull of seeing it in HMV everyday and having read an interview with Andy saying some of new versions with the samples were how they originally meant to be was too much to resist.

I got my copy yesterday just had time to listen to it once so far but I like really like Low Winter Sun. I still think the original version of the album is the best but this is a nice compilation of the era.

If the sample versions were how they were originally supposed to be, I wish they’d re-released the album with all the same songs, but sample versions replacing the old versions… and then maybe a second disc with remixes and b-sides etc. Then I would’ve got it. As it is though it seems like some confused mix of the actual album and a b-side collection, which I just find annoying.

I think i’ll make a playlist on my MP3 player for Crooked Timber and stick in the sample tracks in the running order. I read somewhere Low Winter Sun was going to be on the album but they ran out of time to record it.

Low Winter Sun is a really good song, I’d say. I like Don’t Try too. Nice that they weren’t on the album though, as they can go on my next T? b-sides comp, when I have an album’s worth of stuff :-)

Yeah I like doing that as well compiling my own tracklistings, i’d throw in the acoustic versions of Exiles and Crooked Timber too.

finally got this. all the sample versions are better, especially MM. however the mix of crooked timber isn’t as good as the original. the remixes are just ok. i wish they were after the bsides. LWS is just ok to me. Has a poppy element that doesn’t suit the rest of the album. Don’t Try should have been on CT, however, it’s a cracker. Overall it’s kinda of a silly release, however since I only had the vinyl of the original it was worth the purchase.

I think the remixes on the Exiles single are generally better than the ones here and the Crooked Timber ‘remix’ is rather unnecessary.
