i buy the price guide every year and the prices are constantly different to the prices they go for on EBAY, occasionally they sell for less on EBAY ,but more often than not they go for a much higher price on EBAY.what it boils down to is how much the item is worth to you and how much your willing to pay for it ,and like it says on the book cover ,it is only a guide

I got a copy on ebay for £30, the post office duly lost that and weds I won a copy for £11.50 (my maximum was quite a bit higher but that’s how it goes - if you want more put it on discogs!), now the fucker is saying he wants payment direct into his bank account despite listing preferred payment as paypal (which he is refusing to accept), lost money before with direct bank payments - ”oh it never arrived in my account” bullshit so won’t be happening. Really PISSED OFF with this.

MR H iv bought an awful lot of stuff of EBAY in my time and on the odd ocasions iv had similar treatment as your getting now ,and in my experience the reason they renage on the deal is because they have cooked up some kind of deal with a third party ,so if the item dosent reach a certain price the third party gets the the item at a prearranged price ,and the seller just fucks the buyer around until they get pissed off with it ,there is no reason not to accept PAYPAL (its as safe as houses ) the sad thing is the worst thing you can do to him is leave diabolical neg feedback (the twat wants gelding)

^ Nope, the worst thing I can do is set up a bullshit ebay account and everytime they list something machine bid a large amount at the last second (to ensure I win it), then not pay and repeat process until i get bored, which may take a while!

Sadly you’re probably right about the 3rd party arrangment, I was thinking they probably just wanted to re-list it but your idea makes more sense.

im 99% certain thats the scam thats been used on me three or four times ,if someone has offered them 30 quid for it ,and they say ok but i wanna put it on EBAY first just in case ,and if it dosent sell its yours ,have a really good look at the resolution page iv had a lot of good co-operation with EBAY over the years ,you can even phone em and speak with a real person and explain properly whats been happening ,but finding the number on the site is hard as hell (they dont broadcast it) to find the number i found it easier to google it ,and when you do find the number it gives you a code that is only valid for 15 minutes (to stop idiots constantly ringing) when iv had problems that arent covered in there resolution page ,iv found that speaking to them really helped to get it sorted to my satifaction TRY IT OUT MATE !!!!

Paypal is safe for a buyer, but it certainly is no longer safe for sellers. Unless you send everything registered or with a tracking codes, buyers can start a claim (even if they received the item) which they will ALWAYS win if the seller does not have a tracking code to prove it.
Maybe the seller MisterHoppy is dealing with was ripped of by a previous buyer this way.

When ever you send anything that needs more than a stamp (eg any package) in the UK you have to pay for it over the counter and will receive a receipt - I believe Ebay accepts this as proof of postage from the seller (in the UK anyway), so no I don’t think it’s because the seller has been ripped off in the past, anyway in that case they could of stated bank transfer as their preferred method of payment rather than only specifying paypal on the listing. The other option would of been to put recorded delivery only and charged me the extra £0.70 for it. Besides which the attempt to claim it wasn’t their ebay or paypal account rather suggests it isn’t a buyer who has been ripped off in the past.

Normally Paypal only accepts (working) tracking codes as proof, otherwise you could use any receipt you find at the postoffice.
Start a claim yourself, the rules one eBay are simple, if there’s a bid at the end of the auction, the item is sold (unles a reserve is set and not met). If they don’t even accept their own requested payment method, I think you’ve got the right to be a pain in the ass. With a bank transfer you’re not garanteed to receive the item (or your money back, in the worst case), I think eBay will accept that as an excuse. You won’t get that MA 7” most likely, but don’t let the seller get away with it this easy.

I see what you mean regarding proof of sending An, I also agree with you that I don’t think I’ll be receiving the record but I will be causing the seller trouble over it, just a shame it’s got to be like this but never mind, that’s life. Bought lots of records online recently and this is the first one I’ve had any trouble with and hopefully the last.

Ah well, got my money back, I was buying using a friends account and they hadn’t bothered making a complaint when the seller withdrew the listing citing fraud (not on my part) as the reason. Not been relisted as of yet but I’m keeping my eye out. Still if TammywhatevertherestofyoursellerIDis is reading this please take a big swig from any bleach you have knocking around in the house you wanker!

if it’s relisted, give us a call, why not bid it up to €500 or more and not pay for it? ;p seller’s can’t give negative feedback anymore, they can start a claim, I have no idea what that can result in though…
