When do you count a band amongst your favorites?

I was just wondering what criteria other people have to put bands in their ‘favourite bands and artists’ lists, I suppose it’s not completely the same for everyone =)

When I start buying the same records in multiple formats, not that I have a favourite bands list, just bands I keep coming back to (couldn’t let you have no replies to your question!)

When I’ve been listening to them for years and the albums still hold my attention.

Bands that always spring to mind as favourites:
Therapy?
Faith No More
Afghan Whigs
Kerbdog
Whipping Boy

Been listening to albums of by those bands for the best part of 20 years and still return to their albums on a regular basis, that is spite of owning close to 700 cds.

The only answer I could think of was “when they’re one of the ones I like the most”. But that seemed a bit sarcastic.

I don’t have a favourite band list or anything but like Realityfuck, my favourite bands are the ones I keep listening to for years. Mainly T? FNM, Alice In Chains, AC/DC, Pearl Jam.

I think if I did have a list it would change every week, but there would be a few ever present names (T?, Mogwai, S*M*A*S*H, King Tubby, Toots & The Maytals, The Orb, Ray Keith, Trippy Wicked). For me it’s not all bands I’ve been listening to for ages either, I worked out earlier that since I started listening to ASIWYFA a month ago I’ve bought nearly everything they’ve released (cost me near enough 3 figures though and I’ve a few more bits to get!).

Therapy? is probably the only band where I’d buy everything they put out but even then I wouldn’t buy vinyl versions of stuff. There’s a few bands like the Killers & The Offspring where I’d always buy an album in hard format but everyone else its often just a few tracks downloaded here and there or the CD borrowed from a mate

hmmm, i would say when i hear a song i like or watch a gig from a band and it makes me want to learn more about them and when i do find out they have more than one good song then i’ll become a fan.

Probably bands where I would buy original CDs without having previewed them. Definitely the case with Therapy?

For a start I would have to like them more than other bands.
