Endless Psychology

Was listening to Shameless today and when EP played I immediately thought that with a bit of tweaking it would fit quite nicely with the Crooked Timber and newer material.

Agree/disagree?

Yeah, you’d have to tune it down a few steps and have Super Cooper on drums, but I can sort of see that…

This is a good chance for us to say how generally fantastic Shameless is. Go on, say it!

For me it’s their drunken karaoke singalong party album. Also some of Andy’s best written lyrics in the last decade and a bit, Endless Psychology being a good example. If you compare it to One Cure Fits All, for example, there is a lot more going on lyrically, except maybe on Theme from Delorean and Alrite.

It is also the only T? album so far to feature the word ‘bonkified’. This may be a good thing.

There are sum really excellent songs in it like “This ones for you” and “Tango Romeo”,and specially those two songs would be nice to hear live again some day…

didn’t like it too much at first … but it grew on me after a few years and I love it now, apart from one or two songs that feel a bit “filler” to me.
i also think they we’re ahead of their time once again, with all the retro-rock “the”-bands exploding soon afterwards …

Loved the album when it first came out, but grew weary of it rather quickly.

There is no such thing as a Therapy? album that I do not like - even though it is one of my lesser favourite albums I have to say that I enjoy listening to it all in one sitting rather than in drips and drabs.

Would certainly welcome some of the material back into their live set.

Shameless was their ‘mid-career slump’ i believe but im glad everything is back on track now : ). I just wish T? would admit not all their albums are great instead of that “people didn’t get it” attitude. Come on , be honest! Even the Manics admitted Know Your Enemy and Lifeblood were crap!

To be fair, the only albums I haven’t heard Andy slagging off are Babyteeth, Troublegum, SP-YF, NANE and Crooked Timber. All the others have come in for criticism a few years after release.
Regarding Shameless, the band felt that Graham & Martin were having too much input into the songs, so much so that the songs were confused and the album doesn’t really sound like a Therapy? album.

Tango Romeo a good song? For the love of god… And some of Andy’s best lyrics? Can I refer you to “Welcome to fuck land”. Swing and a miss.

Bringing up this album always opens a can of worms. I love it even though I can admit there are some weak spots. “Welcome to fuck land” a good example.

Regardless, Endless Psychology, tone and lyrical wise, just seem like a good fit with CT & beyond.

I have to say, I didn’t really like it when it came out. My favourite stuff at that time being T? 1990-1992ish, Shameless just sounded nothing like the band I loved, and it seemed that band was never coming back. It’s only really with hindsight, in the context of what they’ve done since, that I’ve learned to not worry about it and enjoy it for what it is - Therapy? shamelessly having fun, before moving on and changing again like they always do.
