Yeah, just make sure you wash it a couple of times a day and get rid of any plasma which may still be leaking. Use the bepanthen after each wash and within a week most of the scabbing will be gone, but it may still look a little dry. When you get to that stage, switch from the bepanthen and use a moisturiser. It’s probably best not to swim or soak it for at least a month to let the skin heal properly. It may look ok from the outside, but the outer layer of skin will be new and a lot softer and soaking it could still damage your tattoo.

What did you get?

So why no swimming? As far I can tell, the whole aftercare thing is i) so that the tattoo stays pristine looking and ii) so you don’t get an infection. It’s 22 days until I go off to Majorca (will pack the SPF 30 and stay in the sun, that bit I understand) and not going into the pool and/or sea is going put a real crimp on things & will make me wish I’d waited a few weeks (or got it done sooner like I meant to).

It should just about be ok to go in the water by then. I suggest not staying in too long (i.e. Before you wrinkle up like a prune) and then drying it pretty quickly when you come out.
It can take up to 3 months for the skin to completely heal. A lot of it depends on your immune system, diet, etc. Avoiding alcohol as much as possible in the next couple of weeks will help a lot too.

Having now seen it, I doubt you’ll have any problems with the water while you’re on holiday. Plus, it’s in an area that’s unlikely to be submerged the whole time you’re in the water. It’s pretty small too, so should heal pretty quickly. Just don’t pick at it while it’s healing.

Thank you Hooch :-)

It’s looking a bit less red now but although the skin right next too it feels pretty moist (oo-er), the actual tattoo feels pretty dry despite the cream - I’m feeling paranoid that I’m going to rub the whole thing off like a transfer. Keep wanting to prod it (keep needing to check its there and I haven’t imagined the whole thing, but the pain in the wallet seems pretty real), but am resisiting the temptation to pick.
