Urgh, booze is always the downfall when it comes to smoking. The key is to only drink with people who don’t smoke, thus depriving you of any access to tobacco.

I’m a very poor drunk. I also decided to dance to Faster Pussycat that night so it was a low moment all round.

Gave up at new year, so that’s about 5 weeks I guess. Pretty straight forward so far. Don’t miss it and my smoker friends smell like shit! Next time I’m in a beer garden and the sun comes out could be tough though.

for drinkers who are financially strapped, the best way to stop smoking is just think “hmmm that packet of cigarettes could’ve bought me a couple of pints” it’s a fine line. i struggle with both. and have given up giving up. and i’ve never felt better. sorry.

Massive test today, away for the night with the wife, few day time drinks, sun comes out, got the urge for the first time since giving up. Probably helped by the fact that we were not sure if this place even sells cigarettes, but we didn’t go for it. And feel good now that we didn’t. I guess…

I went on the piss on Friday and didn’t have a single one!! Perhaps it’s because I was on rum and not vodka?!?
I am beginning to realise how smelly ciggies are! Did I smell like that?!?!
My main concern is turning into a nasty ‘reformed smoker’ so I’m going to shut up now!

Bit (OK a lot) of a slip up these last few weeks, realised I was smoking daily again so stopped yesterday, not too hard this time round now just got to stick to it (no idea why I started again nearly a year after initially giving up).

And I didn’t stick to it - now been 48 hours without nicotine and I it’s all good until something goes slightly wrong and then I want to kill someone! Don’t want to spend the money on it anymore and I’ve noticed how much harder it is to cycle lately, lot more motivated than when I posted in here last so got to keep going.

How’s it going a week on? I haven’t had anything to drink since Friday, on account of not wanting another hangover for a bit

All OK so far, I don’t do any of the patches / electronic ciggies / hypnosis stuff, managed 10 months last time without any problems, main problem is I like a splif (I chose that over hangovers at the age of about 19) and that’s what I started smoking again around my 30th, which led to smoking one a night (the fact I don’t have as much work in the winter doesn’t help), which led to the odd roll-up at work and then I got fed up with it all last week. Thing is the issues in giving up are nicotine related, that’s what gives you the craving and makes you feel shit - so the first week is kinda easy, you’ve got something to fight against, then that goes and if I’m bored in the evening I want a spliff, but it just doesn’t work for me any more, hell it hasn’t worked for me for years, just the last year or so I’ve actually felt I’ve had enough.

Sounds like the trick is to keep busy and do something that smoking makes harder - I was certainly less tempted to have another glass of wine or whatever if I knew I had to get up and run the next morning.

14-and-a-bit hours to go, then that’s my week done, although the plan from then on is moderation for then next two weeks, then I’m away for two weeks which may or may not be miserable…

Yeah - got my first dan grading in May, so in full training mode at the moment.

I picked up a couple of injuries towards the end of last year that kept me from training so ended up getting out of shape over xmas, so playing catch up at the moment!
