Last gig I attended was either Whipping Boy or a local band called I’ll Eat Your Face. Unless of course you count the last one I played with my own band My Evil Ex :)

I had a great time, although I thought the gig was a bit short. I hadn’t bought the new CD yet, so I heard the new songs for the first time, but it was all great. But I (almost) always have a fantastic time at T? gigs :)

As I’ve just mentioned elsewhere, I’ve not really done much concert going for a long time, but I did manage to catch Henry Rollins and Jello Biafra last year; spoke to Jello after his show at the Bristol Student Union, whilst a completely stoned punker kept trying to take him home, even offering to cook for him and make his bed for him whilst I tried to mumble thanks to Jello for putting alternative voices out there and we both looked at each other and thought “Well this is weird and uncomfortable!”

Pelican last night, brutally heavy, could have been louder though!
Also had Tacoma Narrows Bridge Disaster supporting whose album I bought a month or so ago, their vocalist left mid-week so it was all instrumental, and I prefer their instrumental stuff anyway, again top quality rock/metal.

I saw Andrew W.K. last night in Manchester and it was one of the most unhinged and chaotic gigs I’ve ever seen. Such a mental hardcore following, and I haven’t seen a pit go off like that for years and years.
The band are crazy good - W.K. himself grins and rocks out throughout and seems to genuinely enjoy it.
It’s not perhaps the most cerebral of music. Certainly no Tool, but I haven’t felt that amount of sheer teenage testosterone and adrenaline fuelled fury and joy since the 90’s. (I may be looking the wrong places)
The crowd was made up of guys who find Motley Crue a bit too subtle and intelligent for them, and who will still be living with their mothers at the 20th anniversary tour. Half of them will have thought it was the best night of their life since they lost their virginity, the other half will think it’s the best night of their lives UNTIL they lose their virginity.
Whatever - despite the brain donors, it was an unbelievable gig. Loud, dumb and funny.

I’ve been a massive PL fan for years and have never seen them do anything more than a ‘good’ gig; I’ve never come away thinking ‘fuck me that was amazing’. I don’t know what it is about them. It’s such a shame because albums like Shades of God and Icon and Draconian Times are just amazing albums but they never do them the justice they deserve outside the studio. Well, not that I’ve ever seen anyway. I’ll probably be corrected by a million people here but I’ve seen them loads because I love the songs but I agree, the stage presence just isn’t there.
i’m off to see PL in York end April, wirh a friend who a massive fan. i dont know much of their stuff, can you recommend some choons?? (hello btw i thinkni met u in Carpe Diem before Tuesday’s gig!

Hi Ruth-yes I was chatting to you and Hooch about festivals at some point but didn’t see you after that! If you want to check out PL I’d recommend Icon, Shades of God and Draconian Times to get you started-it’s their earlier stuff but I think if you like it you can forgive the goth-SOM style stuff that comes later. they did do a best of album (Reflections?!) once upon a time.
Both supports were excellent, too.

Russian Circles last night, absolutely fantastic, SO heavy, I know the guitarist is looping a lot but some serious amount of noise from a 3 piece. Think the only reason they’re not in the top 5 selling metal acts is because of it being instrumental only, and long may that continue!

Due to traffic jam I missed the Paceshifters … again (when they supported Therapy? in Holland last year, I also got stuck in traffic jam and only saw the last few songs, … enough to convince me to buy their album though!)
