Not necessarily…

1) You can have someone (perhaps some crazy Belgian dude…) ‘crack’ the DVD and convert it to a file that can be played on a CD-ROM player on you PC

2) You can connect a PC (with DVD player of course) to a TV, and record it from PC to video

So there are ways to prevent having to buy a DVD player, all you need is creativity and some knowledge of editing, or good friends with the right machines and knowledge!

Until Silent Hill 3 comes out. Then you have to play that.

It would be great if they could pull together footage of anything they may have done for UK or Irish tv.

Is there any footage out their of their performances at either Feile or Witnness?

I know for a fact MTV recorded Therapy’s gigs at Feile ‘92 and ‘93 and TV3 recorded their set at Witnness 2000.

You can put a chip in (or out) of your DVD-player and then it shows all regions. I know you can do it in Holland at some places like the ‘black market’… (same as your PSX, PSX2 and XBox)…

Many DVD players have a code to remove the region-lock. We have an AKAI player at home, and my brother found this code for his player, it worked for both of us. So just look around on the Internet, should be there somewhere.

As Michael said, it’s very easy to decode a DVD player, just search for your model on the internet. All players start out as multiregion, then they’re programmed to only play certain regions (bastards!) so all you do is unprogram it by pressing a few buttons :D

Also, won’t you be able to at least play it on your computer?

Hi all,

Hopefully the DVD? will be Region 0, which means it will play on any DVD player. However, it will probably be encoded in PAL, so if you US types wanna play it in your living room you’ll need to make sure yr tv can handle it.

I’m not sure about feasibility of this, because I think there are more lines in a PAL image than in standard NTSC, which might cause problems with US tvs. PCs should be fine though!

Fugazi’s Instrument DVD was region 0 and encoded in NTSC. Most modern UK tvs can decode NTSC no probs. Even older sets will at least display a black and white image. Always nice for that arty feel!

A nice technical first post then…

I have Therapy? on video playing at the Hot Press Awards 1997. It was the first time anyone had seen Graham playing, and the song was an early version of Don’t Expect Roses. At the end Andy says something like “Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Therapy? 1997!!!” Nice.

Yeah, I heard about that performance - never seen it though!

But, I saw the VERY first Therapy? performance with Graham - it was “Loose” from the Irish Music Awards, in Dublin. March 1996 was the time-frame.
I think Graham was only in the band about 2 weeks at the time.

Have also got “Big Time” from the Hot Press Awards 2000 - cool performance too. Are you able to copy/trade videos, summer_of_hate?

Did anybody ever tape the music programme on ITV called the Beat? It used to be on during the early 90s during the wee small hours of the morning at weekends. I remember seeing a clip of T? performing on it but it was just them on stage playing in front of the cameras with no audience.

Anybody remember the programme that I’m talking about?

Exactly. You hit the nail right on the head. The region coding can be overcome pretty easily, but the PAL vs. NTSC is a TV issue and not one easily overcome. But you are right. Most PC’s can play PAL discs with no problems. That’s how I play my Pulp Hits DVD.

You can get something called a ‘region X’ disc for the playstation that loads some software onto the memory card to let you play discs from any region on it. I think it costs about £13.

don’t believe so, i’ve checked before.
i do have a ps2 as mentioned before but
have enough bad luck w/o trying to mod
chip it. i’d end up with a wasted $200
piece of plastic, and alot of burns.. very
common when i break out the iron!!!

sniff. all you lovely people with money
for dvd-rom drives.. sniff…

don’t have one. heck don’t have an
operational machine w/ a working cdrom
right now, even..

The Region X disc I mentioned doesn’t require you to get your PS2 chipped. They sell it on Amazon.co.uk, so presumably you should be able to get it on Amazon.com in the US.

Well, I’m on DVD player number 3 and I’ve never had a problem decoding them so I can’t see that you’d have a problem with that. A lot different to having something chipped, which IMO is too risky.

I don’t know about the TV issue either, I always thought it was just that PAL TVs have trouble with NTSC (less lines in an image or something), I didn’t realise that went both ways.

But yeah…sell your body (or soul) and get a DVD drive!

Oh, absolutely. And it makes me bitter because you guys get a lot of good stuff on DVD long before we do. You guys rule in the Music and TV show DVD’s department.

I hate to be the geek but I work in the business!:)
PAL has more lines 625 and NTSC 525 but they will probably release it as a multi region DVD anyway so they cover all areas, its possible to have a DVD with no region coding. The big studios do the coding to prevent you buy the film in US before it comes out on cinema in Europe. Also there are loads of cheap multi region players now.

On the DVD - I hope they include the TFI Friday show that I was at. It was great they were the last band on after James and someone I cant remember. They played church of noise at the end of the show but then the TFI guys let them do three or four other numbers, I would say it was on of the earliy shows with Graham. I was probably the only guy in the audience who knew who they were!
Was anybody else there???

Here’s hoping the US market doesn’t get left out. I can regionhack my player if I want to, but I’d rather not if I can help it. At least the new record is out over here, so there’s some hope…

ok how old is this thread now. anyways.

does any one have an idea as to why Church of Noise Vid was left off the dvd.

One can understand that most of the set comprised of High Angsiety songs (they wanted to promote the album for those less quicker than the rest).

anyway any ifomation
