Belfast Post-Mortem

Started by mrk

I have to say that I haven’t felt so alive in a such a long time as I did when I left the gig last night. That said, I have never felt so drained as I do this morning.

The gig itself was amazing - the Mandela Hall was a great venue again, the crowd were up for it (and one of the friendliest crowds I’ve seen) and the band seemed to be having the time of their lives.

I can’t remember the set list, but it wasn’t startlingly different from the recent set lists posted here. Teethgrinder did get played (in the encore I think.) In fact, I’d say the only change from the Dublin set was Teethgrinder for Stand In Line (well I’m assuming Stand In Line wasn’t played - don’t recall hearing it and I didn’t think I was that drunk!) Dublin setlist is available in this thread… http://www.therapyquestionmark.co.uk/wallofmouths/showthread.php? … eadid=3301

Was a little disappointed that I couldn’t get right to the front but some people are a little anal about not letting anyone else have a bit of a look in.

Big hellos to everyone I pulled up off the ground, and big thanks to everyone who pulled me off the ground.

Really looking forward to the DVD coming out. Thankfully I can’t recall any “You Fat Bastard” chants - which would have been plain embarrassing if it had ended up on DVD.

Great night - cheers lads!

P.S. Neil was fucking superb

one of the best gigs I have been to in a long time! Managed to get right to the front got the last 4 or 5 songs, got crushed to buggery & have some nice bruises on my chest!! (but thats all part of the fun!!!)

Amazing version of Diane was done & the place erupted for old classics like Screamager & Nowhere.

Nice to see them dedicating Die Laughing to Joesy Dunlop & others :D

Great crowd, no fighting that I seen & a great atmosphere, you could tell that the band were genuinely touched by the response. Brilliant show guys, hurry back so we can do it again!!

Last nights gig was fantastic. Possibly the best T? gig I’ve seen and I’ve seen them 9 times now since 1992. Andy and the lads were really up for it and gave a performance of their lives. The new songs were great live and Neil is a great drummer too.

The Mandela Hall is a great venue. I’ve seen T? twice there now. The last time was in 2001 but this gig was just amazing. The atmosphere was fantastic and everybody seemed to be having a good time.

Plenty of crowd surfing on the night too! Was tempted to go up but chickened out! :p

They played all the songs I wanted to hear, especially Teethgrinder and Knives! Both fantastic. Good version of Diane too was played and Potato Junkie was brilliant. My only gripe was that they didn’t play Isolation :( but apart from that it was a brilliant gig and I hope they will come back and do another show.

What did anbody think of the support acts? Yakuza were alright but the sound didn’t really sound good when they were on. Somedaysbetter were very good but were only on for a short set.

After years of lurking about these parts, I had to register so I could chip in about what a shit-hot gig last night was.

Been a T? fan since I was 13, when I heard Nurse.
Last night was the 3rd time I’d seen ‘em, and I don’t know if it was the best I’ve seen them, but I know I had one of the best nights I’ve had in a loooong time.

Woke up this morning covered in cuts and bruises, and my grubby old trainers ripped to shreds by the feet of a thousand maniacs. Fanfuckingtastic.

Anybody else love the way they led into Potato Junkie (I THINK it was Junkie… I had a few to drink), with the intro to Master of Puppets? :D

i stink you reffering to the bit of metallicas master of puppets they played.

just got home bout an hour ago and that gig really did rawk! was cool to meet up with a few of us WOMbles and i did some excellent projectile vomiting into a bin during screamager. classic.
think neil was fuckin excellent on teethgrinder and its nice to see micheal recognised that, he went and shook his hand gave him a pat on the back whatever.
Truly blinding gig.
shame about the aftershow being cancelled seeing as though we had such a mission to find the place…

I can’t wait for this DVD.

if i remember correctly, mr nice guys from this board asked the band about the next single.
they told him there will be a new single of a song that’s not on HA to promote the dvd.
so i thought there was a new song played live at the belfast gig.

maybe i only misunderstood what nice guys said.
or maybe the new single will be a new studio song featured on the dvd.

Hey all,

Thats me just back from belfast, me got work in an hour and after a night sleeping rough on the streets of belfast was erm… suicidal and erry, damn that aftershow being cancelled.

That was the best gig i’ve ever been too! Seriously Its going to be hard toppin’ it and the great thing is when this DVD comes out its all going to be relived again. I got about 30 odd pictures, most of them look like andy is on fire due to my mad digital camera wanting ot look like emo kid artwork. However I wil post them after work.

The trek to the aftershow was a long one, after going to the chinese and losing everyone we decided if we walked slow enough we would be back at the ferry port about 5am, it was more like 2am! So with not a single 24 hr garage, spar or dirty cafe open we sleep in a phonebox til 4am, then get chased away by the seacat man, so we wandering around the harbour for a bit, actually found a street that was civalised and not blown up and sat in the square. It was hell though because the booze was wearing off and hangover kicking in. Got allowedinto the ferryport at 7am where I fell asleep on a chair and nearly got kicked out again by the woman because of mny ditressed hobo like appearence and jiz barfing everwhere, i cant remember a single moment of the ferry backI was ust trying not to lose last nights drinking session over a young family.

So yeah i’m home, and would I do it again, fuck yeah man! Shame I got to work! Meh.

Anyway hope everyone got home ok, i’ll upload the pictures tonight for all to see :)

What a weird fucking night.

The gig was hot, it was so hot. It was amazing. So amazing I almost died in the mosh pit and the front.

Walking out I was grabbed by a girl and dragged about ther est of the night. Some anonymous girl who kept kissing me and crap and said she could “get you and your mates into the afterparty”.

She was a fucking mentalist. By the time we got out we heard the thing had moved to Johnny’s house and the cops were busting it. Then aforementioned girl started freaking me outt elling me aobut how she hurt herself and shit. I ran away.

While I was walking away who was behind me walking to his car but Mr Cairns! and this girl was in a right state and as far as my mate’s could make out he took pity on her and giave her a lift home. she was scary. Scary scary.

What a weird fucking night.

I hope the rest of your T? fans aren’t like that.

Bad luck mate. Not sure how you managed to miss us in Lavery’s either - we must have been all sat right in front of you! I turned up at seven and we were all there ‘til about 8.45 - not sure how you missed us, ‘cos like Nick says, a lot of the crowd had T? shirts on and kept being introduced to each other, with much handshaking, backslapping etc.!

fuck you man - belfast doesn’t have any blown up streets. it’s ‘comments’ like this that make foreigners think belfast is like a war zone when in reality it is probably the safest city in western europe.

anyway, ranting aside, that gig was amazing - possibly better than the ulster hall one in ‘95 - neil even coming so very close to the unbeatable mr. ewing!

looked at your website red mist - nice one. some asshole punched me in the nads too as i crowdsurfed to screamager - i think they were just jealous because mine are so big!!!

I’ve attached a scan of the setlist I got. To be honest I can’t remember well enough to know what was in the wrong order at the end though.

Cheers to all the cool people I met, the beers consumed and the birthday fun :D

A beating with a big stick for whoever knocked me out and gave me a (soon-to-be) black eye, meaning I missed most of the gig

I was about 2 people out from the very front centre, for the majority of the gig. About a gazillion surfers fell from above, which is cool, y’know. You help a dude out when they’re surfing the crowd and would expect no less from the crowd myself if I were the one surfing it.

But one guy on friday night, out of the tons that went over near me, was kicking and punching people all around him as he went over… real dickhead, he was. He landed right on top of me, and busted my mouth open (hey, it’s not a good gig if you can’t taste your own blood, right?). I took a swing at that guy’s nuts, but missed ‘em. If I’d connected, I would should no remorse.
