What could be more boring..?

#

Started by Citizen Erased

(June 12th, 2003) - Hello all, looks like our summer is getting longer. We just got confirmed for the Rock Werchter Rolling Stones show in Belgium on September 7th, 2003. There are a few other bands on and of course The Rolling Stones will headline.

Some people have expressed ‘concern’ about us playing this kind of show. To be honest as Therapy? are a rock and roll band and The Rolling Stones pretty much helped invent the genre, it makes perfect sense to us. Therapy? are non-exclusive with their audience and we relish the challenge of playing in front of an audience who might never have heard us before. After all what could be more boring than preaching to the converted. We love the Stones… Fred and Barney, that is…

See you all later, Michael TPY? 2003

What could be more boring than playing to us? Having no-one turn up would probably be a bit of a pisser!

I hope I misunderstood it all, cos for now I feel a little disappointed…no, disappointed’s not the right word, I just don’t know how to say it.
But I think it’s only my fault, I’m actually too touchy and I also think I didn’t have to write this msg cos it’s senseless and no one will read it so please forget it.

The hot is harmful, u can see the evidence above…

I had the same reaction, to that message…
That one remark does make me wonder, taking his slightly bored behaviour at the Amsterdam gig in consideration…

And if preaching to the converted is boring, maybe one shouldn’t be a preacher?

Personally I’ve never judged anything Therapy? did or didn’t do, yeah, questioned it maybe with an open state of mind. But if critisism gets the best of you, maybe you should knock before frustration kicks in. (and ‘hurts’ the touchy ones)

The thing that keeps me going to Therapy? gigs is the positive and open attitude of the band, and reading Andy’s diary of the Amsterdam gig makes me glad that I was there. But if that where to change, I’d have no business visiting frustrated old rocking farts anymore…

da -touchy- preacher…

Well.. I think that was probably him
venting some frustration at people asking
questions about why they’d play that gig.
Don’t think I say any questioning on here,
guess it was people in real life asking
about it..

I think that’s freakin’ hilarious, and
painfully cool that they’re opening for
the Rolling Stones.. not a huge Stones
fan myself, but ya gotta respect ‘em, they’re
like rock’n’roll royalty… so this is
cool cool cool.

i think some here are a bit to sensible. i think he wanted to point out that it’s just a good oportiunity to see how people who don’t know their stuff react to it. if they play a normal gig, they can be sure that 75% of the crowd can sing along to screamager and the other classics, but you can’t expect that from stones fans, who are over 50 years old.

And I don’t think that’s the case, he mentions something very specific, it’s hardly a casual remark. If he says that he’s looking forward to playing for a crowd that doesn’t know Therapy? well or at all, that’s fine, geez. You just don’t call you regulars boring, or what…

As I said, it probably just came out a bit rough, but now he knows how we feel about being called boring converted ones…

Everyone knows how much TPY? love and respect our fans so it would be a tad churlish for me to start knocking them now. You all have helped us through some bad days and we totally appreciate that.

Personally, i feel playing this Rolling Stones gig will be a good test of the Therapy? band. Playing to people who ‘dislike’ heavy musc will be a big challenge for us.

Sorry again to anyone if i offended them.

btw:as for acting bored at the Amsterdam gig? I think you must have me confused with some other bass player. I had a great time in the MAxx and thought it was a great show. i might have acted ‘bored’ before or after the gig but in no way was i ‘bored’ onstage…

;) … i got it.. i think this was just
an example of how things can come out
sounding different in emails, and the
like. inflection that’s impossible in
emails is often what communicates what
you’re trying to say.

GET YER ASS TO THE STATES MIKE, but thanks
for the note. Hi from Tampa Bay, Florida..

Hi Mike,

It’s defenately good to hear from the man himself, as I was always told not to asume anything (even when diggin’ the joke), at least now we know for sure.

As for the Amsterdam-bored-appearance bit, maybe that was in the midst of being grabbed in the privat parts by another WOM- member ;)

Have fun with the stones and give Wilmaaaaa a kiss from us

Well, not sure of any promoters. Haven’t
delt w/ radio/promoter types in years and
years and years… but I’d personally
be interested in putting some cash towards
seeing you guys (yes, I don’t mean just
a ticket ;)… but if you guys need to
try to do this on the cheap, I’m sure
I could find some ways to help out with
this.

Also, one thing i’ve mentioned is my
brother knows some folks at the local
Clear Channel station.. and he thinks
he might be able to try to get you guys
on a local morning show called the
“Bubba The Love Sponge” show.. very
sarcastic twisted bastard, sorta in
the Howard Stern show.. this’d be good
because he’s syndicated in like 5 markets
across the states, plus is on XM, the
sat-radio stuff…

but seriously.. I might be able to help
you guys some, or lemme know what I can
do.. I’ll check w/ some folks I know
about promoters..

Hmm, wasn’t really offended as found it hard to believe that you meant it in the way that it read - just thought that coming after Andy’s posting on his comments from London being misinterpreted, it seemed a little… surprising

MIKEHELL wrote:

Um, I did get the Fred and Barney bit, but then thought that Mick, Keith etc.. would perhaps be unamused. Wilma is a fox though, so…

MIKEHELL wrote:

Yes, and you’re the only band I’ve ever come across that have matched that attitude with your level of musical talent and integrity. That’s why your band means so much to me (and I suspect others here as well), and that’s why the comment seemed so unbelievable. You’re also probably the only band that would bother to reply like this and so swiftly as well - what we think of you is obviously important to you & much respect to that.

MIKEHELL wrote:

Yes it will - and the very best of luck to you, I hope you go down a storm. Music has an ‘i’ in it though.

MIKEHELL wrote:

I think you’ve set the matter straight, although if you’re in London this week, and wish to discuss the matter further, you can email through the site and I’ll buy you a beer. Admittedly, this is just a shameless attempt to meet up and get my HA cd signed.

Carter looked bored did towards the end of their career, as did Oasis at Wembley a couple of years ago, which killed the atmosphere somewhat. I can’t comment on Amsterdam on account of not being there, but you all looked more fired up than you have for some time at the London gig (except for Martin, who was hidden from my view by annoyingly tall people for much of the night), and that always makes for a great gig .

To be honest, I’m probably still sulking because I didn’t get to go to Belfast.

Keep up the good noise. & hope the ball are okay now.

Well, this riddle has been solved in a Therapy?-ish way, hasn’t it? How cool is it that a band member joins on a discussion board to settle things straight? That’s a big part of what makes T? great! I think both T? and we as fans still have loads of fun to come in the next couple of years!

the moment i realized “these guys aren’t
just great, they’re AWESOME” was the
one time i went to see them about 8 yrs
ago at coney island high in NYC, new
york.. i’d flown up from florida (Was
my graduation gift) and stayed w/ a friend,
we went down to the area of the show
way early, and was in a cd shop near the
venue.. had heard ‘em soundchecking..
walked out, and there they were outside,
just left the venue.. went up and said hi,
said my name and they knew it from my
long defunct web site, mike’s quotes were
“We’ll have champagne! Dancing girls, for
you!”.. was brilliant. got me on the list,
so i still have my unused ticket.

t? is just great in so many ways.
