One of the few bands that choose their covers carefully, and then refuse to fuck them up, unlike Gareth/Will/whatever, and the pretty but vacuous lass that covered Teen Spirit.

They’ve done some great covers, but I’ve gotta give it to “Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight).” I put it on mix CD’s to confuse my friends. :D

Yep the other guy is right, membranes.

Guy named John Robb produced the b-sides
on the trigger single.. and also wrote
that song.

a bit more info, search down for his
name on the list of producers:

Denim demon,

could you sent your email adress to my hotmail account, I have a university account which can easily hold the mp3s, but I am not to keen on posting that adress on message boards (spamwise). My hotmail account is jfkoens@hotmail.com.

cheers!

Vicar in a Tutu! I’d forgotten about that cover. The cd singles from Troublegum had some really good covers on pretty much all of them. But, right now Gimme Gimme Gimme (A man After Midnight) is my current fav cover.

Bit of a late responce but here we go! The Membranes were kicking about in the early 80’s, as Davefromoverthere said they featured John Robb in the line up, aka “Brother John” now of Gold Blade. John Robb also used to do a lot of writing for the Melody Maker, possibly the NME too but I can’t remember, and also released a book a couple of years ago called ” The nineties- what the fuck was that?”. He’s quite a funny articulate guy ( he did a great rant at Oxford Uni about why the Beatles and Oasis were a bit rubbish ), campained against moustaches in rock and you can often see him bodding about in Manchester, not to mention he’s a total showman when fronting the Blade!

My former flatmate’s Uncle used to be their roadie when the Membranes were starting off so we got to hear lots of stories about him!
