Posts Read Problem

#

Started by White Psycho

When I use the Mark All Posts Read button it says that there are no unread posts, but if I come back some of the posts that I know were marked read before are displayed as new posts. Any ideas?

When you hit ‘mark all posts read’, it marks all the posts that were new since you last logged in. Anything that has been written while you are on the WoM will still be displayed as new, even if you’ve already read it.

Is that what you mean, if I explained it right!?

Hooch,

I have an issue too — it used to work, but it doesn’t now. I would log on to the site and whenever I refreshed, it would show me new posts, but given some sort of window of half an hour, maybe more. Now, unless I _explicitly_ click the mark new posts read business, my cookie, (or whatever) never gets updated… so I end up with hundreds of “unread” psots when I come back, even if it’s a couple of days later…

It is probably v easy to solve cos this problem has happened a couple of times before, and Rene has solved it, before it’s reoccurred. So I’m sure he knows what it is.

Talking of which, he hasn’t posted in ages… assuming he hasn’t got himself a contract/job, is he OK, back, etc etc?

Yeah…I think it’s changed so you do have to use the mark posts read thing, it won’t update that automatically anymore.

Rene is fine, he’s on holiday at the moment. Due back some time next week I think, he said early July. I’ll double check with him about the ‘posts read’ thing cause he can explain it better than me!

OK. Cool. Personally I preferred the old behaviour. If he wants to change it, obviously, his choice. My personal preference was “click for new posts more than once in an hour, get the same and newer lists, after that it resets”. But whatever. :-)

Hooch, does this chat thing still work, are you on it, remind me how to get on it??? Damn boy, works in computers, can’t do a simple thing like that…!!!

I make sure that its up-to-date and it says that there are no new posts so I usually click it a few times to get it accurate and some posts still come out as new ones!

I never liked the reset thing but there ya go. It was changed cause it was arsing too many people about before but until now we’ve not had any problems with the new way.

The link to the chatroom is http://groups.msn.com/TherapyChat/_whatsnew.msnw but since MSN decided to do some maintenance last week it’s been a complete sod to log in to, you might be one of the chosen few though cause apparently it’s working fine for some people. Bah.

WP: I’ll ask Rene about it when he gets back, I’m sorry I’m not very technically minded!

WP - sounds like normal behaviour if there are new messages posted since the last time you’ve clicked it, each time you click the link. Are you sure the posts that are marked as new aren’t really new?

Alex, check out this post of mine, it should answer your questions:
