Uh oh! I can almost forsee Hooch’s post, the words “Nirvana”, “Rip off” “come as you are” and “80’s” spring to mind!

Okay, so Dan is DEAF and doesn’t believe me but speaking frankly, as someone who has loved Killing Joke a hell of a lot longer than Nirvana, Come As You Are is SUCH a fucking rip off of Eighties it’s untrue.

Aside from that small point, I’m still not sure KJ should still be around. I first and last saw them live in 1994, and I thought the gig was strained and that they were in it for the quick buck. The whole lighting candles, Jazz in the big black fucking robes…

For someone like me, whose parents grew up listening to KJ the same way I hear T?, (my first words, truly, were ‘Az, Ouf, Ordie’) it’s depressing to see them prostitute themselves. Maybe they’re sincere, I dunno, but I don’t think they’ll get back what has blatantly passed.

I hope this doesn’t really say anything about the quality of music. :)
I just heard one track on a cd with the VISIONS magazine and it really rocked, so despite Hooch’s reservation it might be worth checking out.

I did check it out and have to admit it’s crap.

I think Killing Joke are great just because they made such a big change in their music all over the years and I must admit I like all the periods they have gone through but I must say that Nighttime (with Come As You Are early version on it), Democrazy and Killing Joke 2003 are the best albums they ever made and Love Like Blood still fills the floor when I use it in a DJ-set.

Killing Joke actually tried to sue Nirvana for the Eighties/Come As You Are rip off. I was working with Killing Joke on their Extrmities album in 91. I can honestly say that Jaz is a complete lunatic.

I was working for the record label, Noise Records, which released the Extremities, Dirt album. A bit of departure as we were more known for releasing heavy & thrash metal from the likes of Celtic Frost, Kreator & Helloween.

well if i was in for the quick buck, i’d wear my usual clothes onstage, and not put on my outfit for an hour every nite before showtime… besides i dont think they earn more with a KJ tour than with their regular occupations…

No, but the hype of it all probably didn’t do their album sales any harm.
