You’re all insane. It’s damned obvious that Neck Freak is the best riff of all time and Skinning Pit has the best bass. SERIOUSLY DANCABLE WHEN YOU’RE DRUNK. Which I am. And Dancin’ with da Manson crew has the best drums.

Nope, I’ll stick with Innocent X. The bass line drives the whole song along - great to dance to (even if you dance as badly as me).

Bizzarely I also like the little two bar bass break on Trigger Inside. I know it’s all on one note but it fits and it keeps the energy of the song going.

Q. I’ve never seen Jude the Obscene performed live, is the guitar solo in the middle performed by Andy or Mike ? Any bassists out there, try playing it, it’s a fun little solo and we usually don’t get to do them.

I still like the intro to Nowhere. Very catchy.

Razorblade: I’ve never seen Jude played live either, but I’m pretty sure Michael doesn’t really do the solo. It’s pretty much all guitar. Take a listen to the acoustic version as well.

Screamager is obviously the best therapy? riff, with Sister a possible second and potato junkie maybe third.

p.s. I live near Micheal McKeegan AND THE BAND USED TO PLAY IN MY MATES LOFT, SO UP YOURS.

Razorblade, do you have tab for the Jude Solo. I’ve worked out about ‘alf of the bass part of it and the rest of the song is a piece of piss. It’s surprisingly easy to play for such a good solo.

Back to the main subject - my favourite riff (to play anyway) is ‘Unbeliever’. Also the part where ‘Big Cave In’ really kicks in is as rawking as it gets!

I’ve got a tab made from the acoustic version on my website—it’s not a bass tab though. If you ever end up typing up a bass tab for Jude or any other tunes, send them along to me and I’ll post them.

I’ve got as far as this with Jude

G———————————————-12-14
D——————————————————
A———————-14-15—14——————
E-15-17—15-17——————17-15———

I think that’s about half way there until the guitar kicks in (and I can go back to the easy bit). Thanks for you help.

any Therapy? riff is good because they rule, although ‘Screamager’
(simple and catchy) is very good; ‘Teethgrinder’ is very good
(although it’s very easy to play), but I have an affinity for
‘Misey’ and ‘Innocent X’ (the bass riff).

Ok, here is how I play the solo in Jude the Obsecne.

It’s tabbed for a standard tuning but if you don’t have 21 frets on your bass you will have to alter the tuning and transpose your playing accordingly. If you have never done this then for each semitone you tune up you should play one fret closer to the head.

ie. a tuning of F/Bb/Eb/Ab means the first few notes would be A| 9 11 9 11 etc…

Hope this makes sense.

I have made no attempt to indicate note lengths/timings etc. You can pick these up by listening to the song.

E|— — — — — — — — — — —
A|10 12 10 12 — — — 12 10 — —
D|— — — — 9 10 9 — — 12 9
G|— — — — — — — — — — —

of great riffs

This is how I figured it out. Usually Therapy?’s riffs are played at E. So it’s pretty easy to learn them just playin’ your guitar as you’re listening the record. But this is a riff I’d really wanted it to be my own but goddamn you Andy!

Wouldn’t it make more sense that if you’re a guitarist, you’d have complete authority to name the best riff?

As a drummer though, how difficult do you find it to mimic some of Fyfe’s work? Sometimes I wonder if he was strung out on crank or something to be playing the way he did!
