Calling all Europeans

#

Started by Citizen Erased

Was discussing England’s fairest city of Newcastle with my beloved the other day and she was saying that no-one from Europe would bother going that far north because they don’t know of any really touristy things there - I said what about the wall?

So, was I naively optimistic, or did she do you all a dis-service?

(Before changing the message boards’ software in August 2007 this discussion contained a poll, which may return in the future)

Well, heard of the wall, but wouldn’t bother to go there to see it. Maybe, ‘coz we Germans have had our share of walls.

I think I remember Billy Connolly walking along the wall, while talking about it, during one of his “World Tour of England, Scotland & Ireland” TV shows.

I think I’ll pass.

Ah, I’m going to Newcastle in half an hour. Not for the wall though, I go for the shoe shopping and the HMV experience.
I’ve seen the wall lots of times and heard about it and supposedly studied it and stuff. I dunno if I’d come see it if I lived faraway though. I suppose if you’re interested in walls it might be fun ..

I once saw a documentary about it. If I’m correct a long long very long time ago there was a vulcan. It erupted the whole area flooded, became land again, the level lowered, but the lava was too hard to sink, so when the rest of the land lowered the lava remained and became some sort of long hill. Because this hill was higher than the rest of the land, they (could it be Hadrian?)decided to build a wall on it as a defence to the enemy or to attack the enemy better. I’ve been a long time at the office now, so excuse me if my english is not correct. Very difficult to explain these things in a foreign language…*

I Thought Vulcan’s weren’t supposed to have emotions?
Why would he be mad?
Though they do live for a long time so it could be true?

it’s not that great but it’s got a big shoe section in Topshop and lots of little shoe shops that sell kind of different looking shoes.I could spend lots of money there. I bought some really cute sandals with a little heel and tiny flowers on. I’m in love with them but i bet i spill a ton of beer on them the first time i wear ‘em.

It,s a really, really old wall, it runs from the North East of England to the North West, and was used by the Romnas to kept the Picts out (before the Scots invaaded Scotland nad kicked all the Picts into Ireland, not that it made much of a difference, at least in terms of body hair or average gingerness

Come see! It’s lovely, you can meet people dressed up as Romans, and thank God for Nylon!
