Hahah… Mike, thanks for clearing all that up.
As for the Westone on Nurse, that info came straight from Harvey B whilst we were recording with him (and I was trying to nick your bass sound) but he did confess to being somewhat err… tired and emotional at the time so maybe his memory is slightly less than accurate.
Cheers for the message!

Did any of you, except Mikehell, ever tried a Morley bass wah? And if so, is it worth the money? 200,- is a lot of money for just a pedal, so I can use a bit of advise and critics.
I play a 5-string Musicman Stingray and I have this Boss all-in-one effects machine wich does not live up to my expectations, although I’ve been using it for almost ten years now. I just want a good chorus, overdrive and wah (like the one on ‘straight life’)
So, if any of you could give me some advise, I would be much appreciated.
cheers!

the best overdrive bass pedal is from boss … i think mike used it! i saw it on the infernal love tour and after semi detached live on stage … i think he still is using it … i use it too … you can make the sound of straight life with it … its worth the money … chorus its the same … “boss”
for the bass wah pedal … its not easy … i tried alot … (i play 11 years now) … never found some good one … cause they all don´t get the low frequencies in the sound … so the real bass feeling is missing …
i think mike uses a wah on this tour …
Cheers

tatty is right! Boss Chorus and Overdrive are the best there is (that isn’t saying much, however).
Although I do like the Jim Dunlop Bass Wah (105Q). It’s not as aggressive as the Snarling Dogs nor as wide as the Morley but it does help retain the “bass-ness” of your bass and it does a good job on those “Pulling Teeth”-style solos.

Really? DR strings didn´t stay longer than all the others i tried … and i think i tried them all in 11 years of playing!
But if you like the sound of new sites … its really all the same … but you can try “Aceton” … its like some nail polish remover … but you get them in some colour shops in literbottles … put the strings in it over the night … get them out and clean them … for one day they sound totally new again … the aceton disolves out all the sweat which makes the strings sound so bad …
its really working … and you have the same strings for a half year really …

yes that works too … i did that in the beginning, but its more effective and lasts longer, when you do it with these chemicals

I used to cook them (all dente off course ;))when my cash flow was low. Fortunately I can afford to buy a new set when I want to so I don’t bother anymore. Aceton seems a good alternative for the old ones that I keep as a spare set, just in case I break a string (which actually never happened to me)

novocaine, have you checked http://www.suicidepact.com? For some reason the site is down atm, but I’m sure there are more than 3. And if you want bass tabs for T? and it’s only available for guitar, you could always use the guitar tab as a guide. To state the obvious, Michael doesn’t always differ *too* much from the riffs that Andy and Martin are playing. There are a couple of good fills (Epilepsy, Big Cave In, etc), but the guitar parts often act as a good guide.

I think I like Mike´s Bass playing, cause he is a bit different from guitar … Not like you said …
I think the most boring bass lines are the ones, who just play with the guitar …
Bass can do much more than that!
(example: Les Claypool - Primus)
Bass is melodie and rhythm in one! Thats so great … I play for 11 years now and it never gets boring to me!
BIGGER - BETTER - BASS!

Yeah, ok, Michael’s playing IS good cause he doesn’t play exactly what the guitar does (ie. he’s not like the guy from the Strokes - BORING), but it’s not like with, say Fleah, where a guitar tab would be completely useless apart from showing you the key the different parts of the song are in. Most of the “heavy” riffs are played exactly like the guitar because it thickens them out and makes it louder.
I like the way Michael adds to the song and gives it more colour - I think this was especially important in the days when they were just a 3 piece. This is also what I like about Mike Dirnt from Green Day. Without him the band would sound lacking thanks to Billie Joe’s limited knowledge of guitar.
I like the bass parts on Epilepsy, Big Cave In, Jam Jar Jail, Sister, He’s Not That Kind of Girl, Limbo, Loose, Trigger Inside.. I could go on.
But if you know how to play these songs on guitar, you can surely figure out how to play them on the bass.

Loose has this wonderfull bass melodie part during the second verse …
You are right … it is surely more simple to figure out the bass, when you know the guitar!
Flea is different … But funk was different in all ages :)
T? music is a mixture of metal, punk and that what is between the two … indie?
Whatever …
You have to play with the guitar, otherwise it wouldn´t sound as good as it does …
But on the other hand … In the time there were only 3 i think there was some different things going on on the T? bass!
dancin with manson … for example … Micheal plays the ryhthm but not the melodie of the guitar …
With the 4th member and second guitar he began to play more with the guitar … well i think he had to …
Yeah and about “Green day” … I think their bassman is the best if have seen so far in the “punk” buisness … Most of their guitar or bass players suck big time … well they don´t give a shit about it really … its punk!
I wonder where Mikes Status bass from Troublegum or Infernal love tours are? He could sell them to me!? :)
Or to make it quicker … just give them to me!
My own Status bass wants some friends to play with! *g*

I like the way T? basslines have developed, but I agree that they were perhaps “busier” before.
Maybe that’s got to do with the drumming as well though? 3 different drummers and 2 stand-in ones.
I think my fav bass would be the MusicMan Stingray. Flea uses one and I think Michael used one too. I’ve got an interview with him, Andy and Martin where he says he used a Stingray on S-D.

i don´t like his bass set he uses know … i think it has no unique sound like status … stingray isn´t that good i think, although many bass players use it! Like Flea and Micheal …
But for me it has a to little frets!
Just 18 or something … but i like basses that have at least 24 frets … i use them all :)
Status is perfect for me … The sound like Michael uses in Troublegum and Infernal love area … sounds really great to me …
And with Fyfe it was different … Fyfe played really with his unique style and micheal had that unique sound … Shame he doesn´t use status again for this tour … only one status, buts thats a different type of status i don´t like soundwise or lookwise …
:(

cheap and sucky bass …
but we poor people can´t spend much money on a good bass, cause we don´t have it!
i got my 4 string status “second hand” … new status would 1500 … but its really worth it no doubt … i like to buy a 5 or/and a 6 string status when i finally win in the lottery next week *g*
well i have so many equipment dreams :(
but 5 string with a cute (that doesn´t mean little, just i think he looks cute in the green neon design) trace elliot bass amp would be a like “a wish comes true” for me …
30 equalizer involved in the amp of course *rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr*
don´t get me wrong, but i think a bass (like ever instrument really) is far much better than a girlfriend.
Several reasons:
It will never say something against you!
You can fuck it wherever and whenever you want!
It will love you for that!
You can deal with it hard or soft and it will be never disloyal to you …
It never gets boring! Everytime you play with it, its totally new and exciting! *g*
It looks as sweet and cute like the first time you met! Forever!
*gggggggggg*
BIGGER BETTER BASS TATTY *g*

Ooohh, tatty. I don’t agree. My lovely read haired girlfriend is far more better than my red 5-string Musicman Stingray. If I had to make a choice, the bass would be yours. But I’m glad I don’t have to choose between the girl and the precious (gollum, gollum).
I’ve been playing the main instrument for 20 years and I still learn every day. Flea indeed is a great bassist, but I prefer Michael and Shavo (System of a down) and Billy Gould from Faith no more.
Don’t tell anyone else, but I used to practise while playing along with Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet and (:D) the Cure. ;)

Ähmm … you just said her haircolour without any meaning for me, didn´t you? :)
Okay Redhaired girlfriends would be hard decision for me also …

Hey i started to play to Guns and Roses :(
I think Duran Duran is more classic than GNR … They suck!
20 years is a long time … You must play very good …
Mine 11 years seem to be nothing :(

The fact I mentioned my girlfriend has indeed got to do with your preference for redhaired ladies, just like myself! My bass is bright red as well. She helped me pick it out, although she doesn’t like the colour. Strange.
20 years doesn’t say much about the quality of playing. Like I said before, I learn every day, but I’m not good in playing solos. I’m the kind of bassplayer that contributes to the total sound of a band and in a way forms the foundation of the “building” (that’s also why I play on a 5-string, to go real low) and I prefer playing with drummers that are very busy and do a lot on their kit (like Neil e.g.).
As for the “bass fingers”, no complaints so far…;)

I think we have to discuss this topic while having some (many *g*) beers, don´t you think? *g*
AS for the other questions:
Well i like playing solos!
Like “Les Claypool” … love this guy … he plays nasty but weird … but you know what song it is and where it goes to … its real bass!
i love 5 string! its perfect for all styles! … and you are right … the quantity of playing doesn´t say anything about the quality …
good drummer are rare … most of the drummers are shit!
but you have to look for some … they are out there … i love drummers who have this nasty look in their eyes … like flames … they wanna play everything but just need some bass … yeah and thats me most of the time *g*
