the music “scene” in ireland… i dunno at all, at all!
playing in a band in ireland kinda blows, i find when playing here and there it can be a bit frustrating, playing to 2 or 3 people because you’re the opening act and the headlining band and their friends dont know ye so they wont watch ye. I mean how many people on these boards would go see a band they nothing about? there are small, non profit promoters out there that put on gigs throughout ireland but the fact that people dont show up, the venues dont fancy losing custom when a cover band who play “a great version of stairway, man” could be bringing in the crowd.
in cork you have the R.C.M.C, limerick the A.M.C., Galway N.N.M.C., longford: NOEGO Promotions, dublin and belfast also have numerous collectives.
in galway i have seen local(one man down, diatribe, trigger), national (tooth, dangerfields, dogboy conspiracy, and international(darkest hour, dawncore, skinlab, brood, lightyear) bands, put on by people who want to do something about the “scene” (i hate that word). not trying to attack anyone but you can all contribute: fanzines, webzines, go to as many gigs as possible, start a band. make the word realise that before louis, before flatley, we had therapy?, thin lizzy, kerbdog, the boomtown Fu#king rats…

“The next New Noise Music Collective show is on the horizon. Mark Wed. 22nd Oct. 03 in your diaries or carve it into your arm as there is going to be a benefit show in The Warwick in aid of the Galway Rape Crisis Centre. Doors will be at 9pm and threading the boards on the night will be (in no particular order): Trigger, Giveamanakick, The Dogboy Conspiracy, Fixxxer, Ultan Conlon, 10 past 7, James Finnegan and Fuktifino. Besides it being for a very good cause, it promises to be a completely kick ass night.”
if you can make it please do.
anyway enough of my ranting… take care
