I finally picked up High Anxiety…

Heheh. I’m a bit behind on these things.
Just finished my first listen through. It’s rather good, isn’t it? I really like the songs. The one thing that was a bit of a shame was it didn’t seem so… well, experimental? as some of the previous ones. I really like the production on Infernal Love, Semi-Detached and Suicide Pact, and this seems a little more… clean and bland, production wise. That’s my only real problem with it, though.

Erm. That’s all. :)

i agree with there. as good an album as HA is, i can’t help but feel T?s creative muse deserted them somewhat on this album. anyone remember what the band were saying in reviews back around the release of suicide pact?

“that whole punk pop thing is so jaded, every bastard is doing it.” (or words to that effect).

erm, and now they’re doing it again too. still, i am confident that the next album will be fresh and different.

Hey man they’re just doing whay feels right, and it sounds class! If it feels right to you then you know it feels good to play, and that will certainly come across in the music, which I think it does here… Listen to that opening riff on Who Knows, I’d be extatic if I wrote that.

My best song of HA is “Rust”! In my opinion its a good punk-rock album. But I agree that the creative spirit of IL, SD and SP-YF is missing.

Title: Hmmm

To be honest, I don’t care whether an album is “experimental” or not, or what other bands are doing. All I care about is that when I stick a CD in my player, I want to crank the volume up because it sounds good.

To me, High Anxiety sounds much better than Shameless, Semi Detached or Suicide Pact. I’m undecided whether I prefer Infernal Love or High Anxiety; I like them both a lot. But nothing touches Troublegum, in my opinion.

Someone on another thread said there hadnt been too much development between Shameles and HA, which to some extent I’d agree with. Having said that HA has a bit more variety on it with heavy stuff, poppy stuff and general T? goodness. But I have a little voice in my head telling me the next one is going to be even better… they hadnt been with Neil that long when they did HA and I think once they’re really up and running they will produce a really imopressive album… I’d love to hear another one that is totally unique and stands out from all their other albums, having it’s own sound and feel. But I know whatever they do I’ll love it anyway!

I think that’s what most people want from the band, really.
But I think ‘experimental’ stuff sounds better than more standard stuff, hence my not liking High Anxiety as much as some of their other albums. :)

regarding you saying that HA has a bit more variety on it, i guess it shows that opinions differ cos i disagree totally! i don’t think there is much variety at all, except for rust i suppose. shameless on the other hand has a number of tracks that leap out at me,such as wicked man, theme from delorean, joey, tango romero, ect.

i just think the band should have taken longer to develop the ideas on HA a bit more, the album sounds great but underdevopled.
