Soundgarden in Rotterdam (Ahoy) in - I think - 1995. There was no inspiration just four isolated musicians doing their contractual obligation. The worst was Ben sheperd. He just walked around stage insulting the audience and hamering his fist on his bass. At the end of the show the hall was almost empty…

Yeah, my first major gig was Soundgarden in Dublin in 1995 and they were pretty awful - no interaction between eachother and with the crowd, and their sound was crap. I think it was definately in their best interests to break-up soon after. A great band, but their reputation was tarnished after their last couple of tours when they obviously just did not want to be there. :(

Also pretty crap was Ash at the Point, Dublin in 1996.

Mine must be Dream Theatre about 4 years ago (013 Tilburg-Netherlands); I went there with a friend of mine. Besides the fact that I hate symphonic rock (but hey, I got the ticket for free), the band was shite aswell.

After 30 minutes some blokes in front yelled some songs/titles whatever as a request. The leadsinger responded with ” F.Y.! We ain’t no fucking jukebox!” and left the stage for another 20 minutes or so, just to come back for another 2 or 3 songs.

Hole at Reading 94, the first gig they played after “that” incident, god it was bloody shambolic at best. Failing that I saw Dig twice, supporting T? and The Rollins band, and on both occasions they managed to be dreadful! So they’d probably take the vote on that one.

Whilst not the worst, one of the most dissapointing for me was Helmet at Reading also, they were tight but just seemed lost in their own little world, it felt like you were watching a rehearsal!

Rollins himself was bad at Reading though (think it was ‘94 or ‘96, can’t remember); he kept slagging off Britain, way to work your audience, Henry

Yeah, that was 94, in which he asked ” what music has the UK given to us?” to which the answer “punk” was not registering with the former singer of the hardcore punk band Black Flag!

This is a bit off topic, and I’ve mentioned it before in other threads, but can you imagine what it feels like to go to a gig that you’ve thought is one of the best in your life, only to be told by the band that you’re the worst audience they’ve EVER played to and they’ll never play in your town again? Step forward, MOGWAI!

Ooh the bastards! At the Leeds T? gig Andy said we were the best audience but Michael told me afterwards that really were were only in the top 4. Not bad going though, I reckon.

Have to agree with the Soundgarden option. I saw them in Manchester in ‘95 and it was the crapest thing I’d ever seen. They didn’t want to be there and didn’t care if the audience knew it. Moby was supporting that night and whether Soundgarden had been crap or not I dont think that they could have topped his set which came complete with a cover of Paranoid that wasn’t as cringe worthy as it may sound!

But yes, Soundgarden were shite. Shame really.

On that tour you could really feel that they were to split up sooner or later.
But Moby was brilliant with his Animal Rights punk album to support.

BTW, happy birthday to you.

Thankyou! I forgot that they show up at the bottom of the boards til I got here this morning.

Oh, I’ve had a thought about worst gigs- Soundgarden were bad because they couldn’t be arsed but my bassist’s other band supported Violent Delight over a year ago and all was fine until they got back to the venue (the Roadhouse in Manchester) after grabbing some food and beer to find that all their gear had been thrown into the middle of the crowd because Violent Delight are signed and so the dressing room (imagine a toilet bowl, but smaller)was “Violent Delight’s dressing room”. So the inevitable question was asked of the audience by said support act; “Who’s ready for some VD then? You want some VD dont ya?!” HA!

To top it off VD were actually very crap and I dont think they cant count beyond four simultaneously- they were way out from each other.

Actually I’ll still go with Soundgarden because I had expectations for that gig.

Kiss on the Psycho circus tour in Frankfurt/Main. No doubt about it. Very professional, but no guts at all. And the audience seemed to sleep. After all, I saw T? a few days before (and had a great time and the usual first-row-bruises) and had the feeling during the Kiss concert I was attending a funeral.

Mine was definately Less Than Jake at the Manchester Academy about 2 years ago. I only got tickets because I liked the song and video for all my best friends are metalheads.
But they really sucked big time, and when we got out, there were all these 4x4’s parked up waiting to take the teeny boppers home! I guess they sucked as I thought the lead singer was a complete tosser, but the bassist is pretty cool
