I think T? are going ‘wrong’ by not releasing another single commercially from HA.

After IL and S-D maybe T? should have taken a few support slots and built up their fanbase again.

I agree Bad Karma. I think doing some of the tour packages they’ve (probably) been offered supporting bigger bands or maybe the Ozzfest would get them new fans whereas only headlining tours will mean they’re playing to more or less the same audience over and over.

And they really should release another single of HA commercially. There’s plenty to choose from.

Every song off HA is good enough to be a single,i have a live MP3 of T? playing Ten Year Plan and Andy says their not interested in competing with the pop bands,so maybe an EP release might suit T? better with a lead track from HA.

all this talk of sucess, its strange, you have got to look at the type of bands, styles of music and ultimatly the accesibility of the song for the everyday punter.
therapy? in my opinion have achieved remarkable commercial sucess considering their sound and image. left of center rock music just doesnt sell very well normally, with the exception of freak trends and once offs…therapy? arnt easy listening rock music (thanks be to fuck for that), just look at the first single, meat abstract if i’m correct, where did that coem from? brilliant but you cant imagine your ‘average joe’ givin it a second listen, but something was afoot back in the early 90’s and luck has a big part to play with it, right place right time, ‘right drummer!!!’, they got signed and the rest is history.

its that way for so many bands, they hit at just the right time, look at the darkness!?! right time right place,
same with radiohead, manics, and oasis, jesus how bad were they and they sold fuck loads!
another consideration is the european vs US music trends, which is a whole other bag of shite that i wont talk about now.
But when you take a career span into account, there is peaks and troughs, there’s always gonna be the purists who yearn for the early days and the new fans who just get hooked on the latest single, in the end its all good,

therapy? are into their 14th year of their mission, 11 top 40 singles in uk, 4 top 40 albums, countless classic gigs, top of the fucking pops appearances, namechecked/posters in hollywood film/films, how many albums??, a nomination for the mercury prize for troublegum, million pound video for diane/loose, rip roaring albums lately, a bloody best of collection…doesnt how you measure sucess, money, happiness, artistic creativity, acclaim, for me therapy? have managed it all and still come out as being nice people in the end, that does it for me folks. as a musician meself, who honestly struggles to make a living from music, between gigging and teaching guitar i’d kill for a crack at the sucess they have had.
I am amazed when i think of Thin Lizzy, my other favorite band, that i consider vastly underrated historically, had a 13 year career, 13 albums, loads of hit singles etc…
well therapy? have surpased the duration, being together nearly 14 years, and are doin pretty well in the singles and album comparisons. ultimatly for Phil Lynott sucess and his not coping with it cost him his life, so here’s hoping that t? grow old, bitter and twisted living off their hedonisitic youth.

i think in the past therapy were as someone said, quite a big band. also you’re right to point out that they’ve gone back to playing the smaller gigs. i remember being a fan since troublegum came out and there was a therapy gig on tv last one night. ive seen therapy plenty of times my first was at donington 95.

but i tend to think since then, without the record company pushing the commercials and whatever, its only the people who got into therapy years ago that really know about them. sure a few kids go to the gigs, but i tend to think if the music mags and whatnot did a few more articles and whatever about them, then a younger audience could cotton on. i mean, i’ve been into this music for around 8 or 9 years now, and a lot of my freinds who i used to go to concerts with seem to have grown themselves out of going to a concert.

im not going to say its a shame or anything, because i know that whether theres 5 or 500 people at a therapy gig its going to be great, but i tend to agree that they do deserve a lot more than they have.

Was interesting reading this topic…felt compeled to have my say!

Therapy? kind of lost me the moment I first heard Infernal Love. Up until that point I *lived* for Therapy? The first two EP’s were all I ever listened to. I remember after Pleasure Death came out there was a real excitement in the music press about Therapy? because their sound was so different. For me and my friends they were the dogs bollocks, the first two EP’s were some of the greatest music we had ever heard, there was nothing like it around at that time…infact I don’t think there is anything like it now. When we finally went to see them on the Nurse tour it was one of the best times I’ve had.

When I first heard Infernal Love I couldn’t believe it was the same band. I just didn’t get it! I was so disappointed. I didn’t really bother with Therapy? records after that. Up until the new album I hadn’t really listened to anything therapy? had released. I kept going to see them live. Their winter gigs at the leadmill in sheffield have become a regular part of my life.

They only reason I am writing this post now is because I happened to come across ‘If It Kills’ in a Virgin, out of curiosity I bought it and to be honest it blew me away. When I bought High Anxiety it felt like they were back.

High Anxiety is an exceptional album and deserves to be massive. The recent gig in sheffield was quality… one of the best yet. It looked like everyone was having the time of their lives (band and crowd).

I am happy that I have found therapy? again.

Title: where did t? go wrong

interesting subject…
the problem is that most bands fail to hold interest after a few albums. Change direction (infernal love) you get panned, keep plodding on in the same way and you get panned. Someone bought up the subject of weezer. They disappeared for 5 years, come back with that green album, held peoples attention for 2 minutes, then no-one was bothered again. We’re kinda lucky that therapy have got a ‘fuck you’ attitude and keep on producing stuff for the die hards. Personally i think infernal love was a slightly weak album, but they seem to keep get gradually better and better since. The wolvo gig recently was the best i’d seem ‘em in recent memory.
