christmas number one…

#

Started by not_that_kind_of_guy (a story on the radio)

hi,

this year it seems to be a big thing (well, in the UK anyway) as to who’s going to be number one for christmas. for once not ALL of the main contenders are utterly shit. this is a 4 part question. sorry, it’s a bit complex.

1. who do you think will be number 1?
2. who would you like to be number 1 (out of the main contenders)?
3. if you could have any song from this year by anyone at number 1, what and by whom?
4. which of the main contenders should be shot?

i’ll start

1. the darkness unfortunately
2. that “mad world” cover song from the donnie darko soundtrack (can’t remember who it’s by)
3. has to be “gay bar” by electric six (just for fun)
4. those fucking pop idol people for covering that beatles song. that’s a double whammy by the way, one for being on pop idol and two for covering the beatles. i don’t like the beatles by the way. most over-rated band ever.

sorry if this post doesn’t make much sense. i have been drinking. :)

I’ve got a horrible feeling it will be Avid “unfunny twat” Merrion and his “hilarious” new single, “Proper pile of shit cash in single”.

dano: shit, i forgot about him. i think the program is quite funny (well it was about a year ago until it just got repeated again and again and again). but certainly the single is shit. again, quite funny with the video but to hear the song on it’s own (i.e on the radio) it is quite horrendous.

Who are the main contenders? I really don’t pay any attention to the charts. Except I did watch a bit of TOTP2 today and it had Cliff Richard on, I vote we shoot him cause it was awful.

okay… beware this is from nme.com…

THE DARKNESS have stolen the lead in the race for the Christmas Number One, according to bookmakers.

On the second day of sales, ‘Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End)’ has seen its odds shortened yet further to 1/3, making them favourites. Former favourite ‘Happy Xmas (War Is Over)’ by the ‘Pop Idol’ finalists have lengthened from odds of 1/2 to 8/1, according to Ladbrokes bookmakers.

However, it now looks like a three-horse race after Michael Andrews and Gary Jules saw their odds cut in half from 8/1 to 4/1 for their cover of Tears For Fears’ 1982 smash ‘Mad World’, as featured on the ‘Donnie Darko’ soundtrack. Bookmakers face a six-figure payout if the track triumphs, having started on 50/1 odds in November.

Midweek sales figures bear out the odds, with ‘Pop Idol’ currently languishing in fifth place behind the three front-runners and current chart-toppers Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne, according to HMV.

Ladbrokes spokesman Warren Lush said: “The ‘Pop Idol’ 12 are friendless in the market, but there is a long way to go.”

Ta :)

1. I think Pop Idols are gonna get to no. one because it’ll be in the stockings of munchkins across the land.

2. I’ll root for Ozzy and Kelly, it’s a bloody awful song but hey, he’s Ozzy.

3. Obv. will vote for Rust here - that would be v cool :D

4. I’m sticking with Cliff, though agree the Bo Selecta chap could do with a bullet as well - for creating another opportunity for Craig David to appear on tv if nothing else.

I don’t give a fuck about christmas anymore! It’s just a lot of hypocricy, especially with all the anger, hate, poverty and wars that go around the world at the moment. I even heard people say that Saddam H. is Bushes’ christmas present. Too sick for words!

I really like the Darkness.

Don’t shoot!

They are just having a laugh, and like wearing catsuits and spandex and shit. Thye are having fun and enjpying themselves. They aren’t being ironic or anything. They’re just being rockers.

And they do have some pretty cool tunes. and their Christmas song is a proper Christmas rock song.

The Bo Selecta single is good. Shit song but funny nevertheless, and the video is hilarious.

We’ve already discussed the “merits” of the darkness before, I think we all agreed they were shit ( I said it so it’s true and nobody can argue so there! ), current figures coming in seem to indicate they’ve clinched it.

Now they’ve got all that cash, do you think he’ll get his teeth fixed?

I reached a similar conclusion about Andrew WK (where is he now?)

When i first heard The Darkness christmas single i thought it was shite its grown on me a bit now.Its ok but still not as good as anything off the album.

I’m a bit sick of hearing Mad World now Donnie Darko came out ages ago,i still think its good. One drawback if Gary Jules gets the number one spot there might be a Tears For Fears revival.

The Ozzy and Kelly song is terrible as are the attempts by Sir Cliff,Pop Idols and Bo Selecta all mediocre in the extreme.

No not right not wrong just different, you’re own opinion is no more valid than anyones elses so lose the attitude.

So Gary Jules is the housewifes favourite,i have never really been bothered about the Christmas number 1 spot before but i’m glad its not those Pop Idol twats.
