I f£$kin loved what these guys did, but often find that it is too hard for most people to listen too. I dont think I’ve ever heard anyone heavier or as hard as nails. I bought The Dukes of Nothing album the other day and I’d have to say that them and Murder one(both bands have ex members of Ironmonkey) are the only bands that come close…discuss!

I have to say that I was not a fan. However, if you liked them, you might also like Raging Speedhorn. I think it’s safe to say they were “inspired” by Iron Monkey.

I saw r.Speedhorn before their first album when they only had a few demos, and I have to say they were much better then than after being signed. They are influenced by Iron Monkey but to the point where I’d say they rip them off. Unfortunately I dont think there’ll ever be a band as hard as I.Monkey. R.Speedhorn seem to think they’re hard as nails, but I.Monkey never needed to tell everyone, they’re reputation preceded them.

Title: our problem

I bought this after hearing one of their tracks on a kerrang compilation and also because i thought the cover art was really cool, love the way that guy sings and there is some great guitar work. I was wondering is this what is known as “death metal” - im not really up to scratch on stuff this heavy and want to get into it more.

Raging Speedhorn aren’t death metal. I’ve not heard all of Iron Monkey’s output, but I don’t consider them death metal either. Labels are a bit stupid when applied to music, but I’d say death metal is stuff like Meshuggah, Darkthrone, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle Of Filth, etc.

The difference is usually that the vocals are even growlier than Raging Speedhorn and Iron Monkey, there’s more of a gothic influence on the sound, and the guitarists are usually better.

Not to say RS or IM have guitarists the quality of Noel Gallagher, but death metal guitarists are usually fucking brilliant. I remember going into a guitar shop once while a death metal guitarist was trying out a guitar and man… that shit blew me away.

Death Metal = Cannibal Corpse

They wrote some really nice poetry already… “Fucked By A Knife” or “Devoured By Vermin”… why not… it does not always have to be lovesongs :D

I have to say I prefer CARCASS than Cannibal Corpse. I.Monkey were more of stoner sludgecore band. With real f**kin dirty downtuned sabbath style riffs and the gut wrenching growls from the singer Johnny Morrow(r.i.p) Yeah some death/black metal is good but nothing I ever heard has ever compared to the velocity or level of hate fueled anomosity on I. Monkey’s records.

And they appeared in Ace Ventura..which was the best thing they ever did in my opinion!
