Futurama

#

Started by kandi

Does anyone else love this show? It has to be the funniest cartoon ever on TV - personally I think it’s even better than The Simpsons and South Park. :D

Let me know if there are any other Futurama fans out there. And if you don’t know Futurama check out this site: http://www.fox.com/futurama/

(Before changing the message boards’ software in August 2007 this discussion contained a poll, which may return in the future)

I think Family Guy is better, though Futurama is good.

Nothing beats The Simpsons though. The fact that you’d keep watching the same episodes over and over, and still laugh, is a testament to it’s class and longevity.

Well as good as The Simpsons is, I just think Futurama is a little better, especially as recently The Simpsons just seems to be about how many different “celebreties” they can get on the show. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the Simpsons, but nothing beats the dark irony of Futurama. I have all 4 seasons on DVD and I just watch them over and over again.

I have only seen a few episodes of Family Guy, so I can’t really tell how good that show is. It seemed very funny though. ;)

But I agree on Futurama being brilliant though I still prefer The Simpsons. I think the Simpsons characters have become more elaborated over the years.

Simpsons > South Park, Family Guy, Futurama, etc etc

Don’t get me wrong, I love them all, but the Simpsons has been on tv for over 10 years now (even longer if you count the slot on the Tracey Ullman show) and is unbeatable.

Wrt to having celebrities on the show, Futurama has lots of celebs, albeit just their heads in a flying tank with an impression rather than the real thing. Plus Katey Sagal, who used to play Peg Bundy in Married With Children is the voice of Leela.

Personally, I’d have to say Family Guy is my favourite. I love just how far off the wall it goes, much more than Futurama or The Simpsons, though they are indeed both classic shows.

I liked the first series of South Park, but to be honest I’m pretty bored of it now.

I tuned out after series 4 of South Park. They just kept putting it on later and later here and they didn’t seem to be doing anything new. And they were going to kill Kenny once and for all. Why? :(

I used to love sitting down and watching an entire series of South Park in one go. Ah, student days :)

What’s the name of that cartoon with the fat kid who’s got a grandpa whose legs are cut off at the knees? King Of The Hill? Does anyone like that series? I think it’s pretty good.

At the moment, i reckon Futurama is better, but that’s just because the last couple of seasons of Simpsons have been pants. Obviously the Simpsons have had many more good episodes than Futurama because it’s been on for three times as long. But at the moment, Futurama is better. Yes.

It’s a TV show about a family who run a funeral business. It’s funny you should mention the band, I was looking for the DVD collection of the first series of the show at my local record/DVD store and I found the band’s CD.

They had a drawing of something evil on the cover, and that pretty much always puts me off buying a CD. The only band that can get away with it is Slayer :)

Hey, dude!

Aside from that, … without being geeky and remembering it (though that would be good!) and without looking it up on the net… what was that quote from Bender when he ended up being golden-plated or someting smiliar…

It was a kinda “bite my shiny metal ass” but it wasn’t. And it wasn’t that. And it was only probably funny if you watch Futurama. And even that, you had to be there.

I’ll get my coat…

As for grown up cartoons, how about Cow&Chicken or Ren&Stimpy? And the best comedy involving funeral parlour has to be ‘Fun at the Funeral Parlour’. What can I say, total anarchy and mental mayhem just appeal to me the most:D

Of course we could go way back to the glory days…Dungeons and Dragons, The Mysterious Cities of Gold, Dogtanian :D *grown up cartoons*

My fav cartoons as a kid: Transformers, Roger Ramjet, Mask, He-Man, Lonestar, Samurai Pizza Katz and Dogtanian.. Mysterious Cities of Gold was brilliant too, if it’s the show I’m thinking of. I think it was called “Eldorado” over here. Is it about a group of people searching for gold in South America? And the main characters are kids? And .. this could be a far stretch.. do they encounter aliens of sorts?

See, the early ’80s were the best for cartoons. What do they have these days? Pokemon? Digimon? Pah.

Yes! That was Cities of Gold :D I have heard that the reason it’s never been repeated is that it was actually very racist - but I don’t remember it well enough to say really.

Other top cartoons have to include Duckula and Dangermouse. There really is no comparison with the crap kids get today.

I can’t remember it being very racist - probably too young to pick up on it. All I remember is it was brilliant! I was waiting for it to be re-run, but I guess that won’t happen now :(

Duckula was great. As was Danger Mouse. Heh. Remember the bit in Mall Rats where Shannon Dorethy tells her ex-bf about the shit she did for him like stripping to the theme tune of Danger Mouse? :D

I tried watching a bit of this kinda Pokemon show but with hamsters the other day. It did nothing for me.

Did you know they’re bringing out DVD boxes of the Dogtanian show? Yay :)
