Interview with Michael

#

Started by White Psycho

Anyone who’s interested there’s an interview with Michael McKeegan in the current Bass Guitar Magazine. Its pretty cool for bass players (I only saw it because my mate is a bass player). Might transcribe it sometime if I can be arsed but its too late right now and I’m lazy!

There was a day when I would have jumped on this, rushed to the newsagent and put it up. But hey, in the Al Pacino style, “forged aboud id”.

Not that it negates anything the interview is about.

And I’m not quite sure why I am saying this.

Hohum.

Sarah — hi!!! :)

I really hope I’m not alone but just dont rate Pacino as an actor at all. All he does is mumble with no hint of emotion.

All his lines are delivered exactly the same monotone blank staring way..

Oh and Kenneth Brannagh is Shit too. He just sounds like hes doing shakespeare on screen, it just sounds so over the top.

One of the finest actors around is Patrick Stewart.

Ken was good doing the voiceovers for Walking with Various prehistoric critters and Shackleton was good, so I disagree that he’s shit, just a bit limited in what he plays.

And whilst we’re whinging about actors, I think the way Ian McKellan uses his position to bang on (to coin a phrase) about homosexuality is disgusting. Not that I’m being homophobic, its just the thought of someone that old having an active sex life is… bleurgh!

Can you imagine what his scrotum must look like?

I’m with Dan on this one…Pacino is a legend…I can pretty much recite every line of his in Carilot’s Way…but his finest performance must be in Donnie Brasco…legendary…

My girlfriend hates hime..she claims he’s “just a wee man who loves mumbling then shouting loads”

but she’s grand looking so i let her off

Response - “it was okay”

I know I’m a bit late in saying this but how on Earth could anyone NOT think Pacino is brilliant? I mean, if all you’ve seen is Sim0ne and Frankie and Johnny, fair enough, but Insomnia, the Godfather Trilogy, Heat, Carlito’s Way, Scarface, Donnie Brasco, The Recruit (shut up, it was good), Serpico, Scent Of A Woman (again, shut it. The man got an Oscar for it), Dog Day Afternoon and so on are all classics.

::Gets ready for the replies:: Um… I don’t think Pacino is bad, nor DeNiro, but one thing they are is Overplayed. Kind of like that song by Jet being shot across the radio at us. Sure, they’ve acted in a lot of classic movies, but there are MUCH better actors with more range in their acting. What roles do DeNiro and Pacino play best? Cops and robbers. Put them outside that role and they’re pretty out of their element.

To me, an actor needs to be able to adapt to the part, and it just seems like Pacino and Deniro’s parts are handed to them because it would only occur to the person writing it to say “who else would this be?”.

I’d give my own ideas on great actors, but I imagine I’d get stoned (er, rocks thrown at me, not high).

Yes rocks. Lots of rocks. FIY Pacino got an Oscar for playing a blind soldier in Scent Of A Woman and De Niro got one for playing Jake LaMotta, who was once the middleweight boxing champion of the world, in Raging Bull. I’d hardly say they were “out of their element” in these cases.

Yeah, they’ve played cops and gangsters lots of times, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have range. Have you seen the Mission, Taxi Driver, Wag The Dog or The Deer Hunter with De Niro? Devil’s Advocate (shut it, it rocked) or The Insider with Pacino? Personally, I think they have great range, being method actors and all.

Yes, and in every case I was unconvinced that they were anyone other than Deniro or Pacino. It has nothing to do with rocks, it’s a personal opinion. Your opinion is that they are almighty god-like actors (even stating awards), and mine is they are not a model of what acting is. Titanic won 11 Oscars and that’s undeniably a pile of dog-dung. Awards do not make one great.

I personally think that Kevin Spacey and Willian Hurt are much better actors.

Again, these are opinions, and as such neither one of us may be “right” or “wrong”. Sometimes people forget this.

Well, I’m sorry you feel that way. My point with the Oscars is that they weren’t “out of their depth”. Titanic won 11 Oscars, and thought I thought the STORY was rubbish, some of those Oscars were deserved…

Spacey and Hurt are both brilliant too though.
