Amsterdam

Started by rickman

Me and a friend are going to Amsterdam for a few days in February [16th - 19th] and we were hoping to check out some local bands/ rock nights. I was wondering if any of our Dutch members, or those who have regularly visited Amsterdam could recommend any good venues or indeed know of any gigs on the 16th, 17th or 18th of February 2004.

If only T? were playing…!

Best venues are Melkweg (http://www.melkweg.nl) and Paradiso (http://www.paradiso.nl), many good bands have performed in those venues, including our beloved Therapy?. I can highly recommend Melkweg on any night, there’s always something to do over there.

And good and cheap food at the Melkweg restaurant! Almost all bands always eat there also!!!

What about good rock-pubs? I’ve only found The Cave and Rock IT since I moved here and both are pretty shit. \
Any suggestions?

It all depends on what you want to do in Amsterdam. Off course the Melkweg and Paradiso are great, but there aren’t any interesting concerts when you’re in town. For food, I’d suggest the side streets off the Leidschestraat or in de Jordaan.P
Pubs; just follow your nose (or whatever part of your body)’Try and visit a genuine Dutch pub. There’s a very old one at ‘de kop van de Zeedijk’(forget the name, so sorry)with Brand Imperator on draught. At least they had it the last time I was there.
Forget the red light district; it isn’t what it used to be and much too expensive.

Nevertheless, enjoy your saty ;)

My friend has heard that the Soundgarden pub is really good for drinking, eating and rocking. Is this correct? If so where is it?

Move to Rotterdam, it is far better than Amsterdam: Amsterdam heeft HET, en Rotterdam heeft het HET niet nodig!:)

Well then Ronald, try to convince us with solid arguments why Rotterdam is better than Amsterdam. I’m sure mother666 is interested. But please don’t tell us fairytales about Feyenoord. I’ll give you one ‘plus’ so far: Nightown.

Ok, here I go with my RotterdamPromotionCrusade: It has even been in the news that Rotterdam nowadays is far better for going out, especially after the clock has past 1 AM. We’ve got some nice Irish Bars, nice places at” Binneweg, cafe Dizzy.. some good venues: Waterfront, Nighttown and Rotown, the last one being one of the best places to go out as well…we also have a thing called infrastructure so you can move around easily, people from Rotterdam don’t care what your looks are like, as long as you are yourself it’s alrite, you don’t have to be alternative…on top of that I am to be found there, now, if that doesn’t convince you people…;)…peole just go to Amsterdam to say they have been to” Amsterdam”…I only go to that city for concerts…The best thing about Amsterdam is the sign Rotterdam when you are leaving it!…and for feyenoord…that one was under the belt 3DDO, so that was a sign of weakness of your side…but it hurt!! AAAAARRGGGHHHH!!

Sometimes I like hitting under the belt Ronald. You’ll get over it, and I must say you made some really good points about Rotterdam, especially where it concerns the people. I’ve got more friends in Rotter- than in Amsterdam. Hell, even my grilfriend was born in Rotterdam

For me it’s easy; I’m from Den Haag, the dullest of the four big cities (which doesn’t mean the people are dull off course)

I know, but I don’t give a f*** about ADO. I used to in the old days of Aad Mansveld. I think it’ll be a draw; 0-0 probably. Is this under the belt as well ;)
