Do you mean ten percent _more_ than anyone else, or just ten percent of whatever’s normal? Why does that even matter?! I NEED TO KNOW!! ;)
(calm blue ocean, calm blue ocean)
I’m sorry, I’ve just never met anyone before who based their opinions of someone on how much anaesthetic they would need for an operation.

Ten percent more than normal. It doesn’t really matter, I just thought I’d mention it.

Are you insinuating that I’m a date rapist and therefore don’t like red-haired women because they require more knock-out juice?
I just wanted to point out that red hair is not for everyone. That’s all.
Now, let’s get back to bassics (oh I’m so funny)

 indeed! But I think such a person would use some sort of tranquilizer to spike a drink with, rather than carrying around an anaesthetists’ trolley, complete with gas cannister and mask, so I’m inclined to trust you ;)

Just as a reminder to everyone else who is reading this: what type of bass do you all play?! To recap:
3ddo: Stingray (five string?)
Me: Danelectro Rumor (so there’s no excuses for anyone who is ashamed of what they have ;) )
Tatty:… Umm, d’you know, I can’t _quite_ remember what Tatty’s favourite bass is… Begins with an ‘S’ I think.
And maybe ends with ‘tatus’ :)
And has red hair…;)

Yes, my Stingray has 5. I guess you’re right about Tatty. Though I’ve never heard of an S bass with a tatus at the end. I wonder how they look and play ;)
But, hey. I’d love a bass with red hair too, although I don’t know why. Maybe it’s just to please good old (are you?) Tatty…
Anyway, we’re the most underestimated musicians in any band. The underdogs without whom the band sounds crappy. But, like I said before; we rule :D:D:D

Yeah my bass is something with a “S” at the beginning and ends with some “tatus” … something familiar like this *g*
we are bass players and not frustrated guitarists!
Some people don´t get the differnce. Cause any instrument with strings has to be a guitar and any guitar has to play rock, and any rockguitarrist has to be a front man :(
Yeah we indeed rule … Without our perfect playing and sound no guitar player ever could let his frustration out on his guitar. We get them a solid basement which they can build up all their shit they usually play :)
Yep we indeed rule … Ask the girls … But don´t ask me were you can find any … I don´t know it myself *gggggg*
How old i am ? It depends on what you are call “old” :)
P.S.: How do you get a guitarist to play slow and fewer notes?
…
You´ll get him a sheet of music!
(I hope the joke worked out … If not its just a matter of a bad translation from german language *g*)

What’s this guitarist-bashing all about then, huh? Is it the psychological inferiority complex that all bassists have due to the fact that they only have 4 strings as standard, whereas we Gods Of Strings have 6? ;) Just kidding.
I think a good bassist is harder to come by than a good guitarist, because most bassists I know only started playing the bass because they thought the guitar was too hard. This is why most rock bassists are boring in my opinion.
I really need to buy some new strings for my bass. It’s a Washburn Bantam XB-400 and I’ve not bought new strings for it since 1997.

Most rock bassists are indeed boring. You pointed out one of the possible reasons. A good bassist is a bassist from the heart and not out of frustration. They’re easy to find, Michael e.g. is one of them.
By the way, there are quite a few bassists with five :D, six or even more  strings.

I think the bassman, who write here are all sweetie bass players from the heart and not playing out of frustration.
Irishlady should pick one to go out with her *g*
Some bit of bass lessons should make her hungry :)

Yeah, also the fact is that to learn some _basic_ bass playing is easier than learning the ‘equivalent’ for guitar, and there’s a hell of a lot of players who are happy with that, and give the rest of us a bad name (and aren’t exactly inspiring)…

I know John Entwistle (for one) had both an eight and a twelve string bass.
That just gives me nightmares. TWELVE?

Twelve strings in what way: four times three or twice six?
I know Yes’ Chris Squire has a four times three bass. It has the usual string in the middle, with on both sides the same string one octave higher.
And then off course there is a six string bas which is an octave higher than a usual bass and an octave lower than a guitar. It is used on Primary by The Cure.

I’m not certain, but I think it was twice six. Not sure if that would be better or worse than thrice four, though. I’m happy with plain old four strings, though tuned down a tone (DGCF). More than that is just indulgence. ;)

That tuning is used by Mike and some other bassists as well. Because it sounded awfull on my 4-string, I bought a 5-string. My first was a Bass Collection, a quite unknown brand from Japan. Good but not enough sustain and low. As you already know I got my dreambass :D

Interesting. Do you know is that(DGCF) ‘normal’ for Michael, or does he tune to E as well? A lot of the songs seem to make a little more sense played in that tuning, at least to me.

He uses different basses, as you know. Some are tuned in E and some are tuned in D. So, you’re right that some songs make more sense when played on a D tuned bass.
Maybe Mike can give his comment on this one day.

The mighty mighty John Entwistle … he really revolutioned the rock bass playing …
Nerver saw him with more than 4 strings though :(
heared some songs by “the Who” again (Substitute, See me-feel me, Pinball Wizard,…) … totally kicks ass music … The live videos from the 70ties are really great … Daltrey and Thownshend alaways battled on stage … Just some perfect band!
