i’ve nothing against discussion, it’s the irresponsible apportioning of blame that riles me.

there are a whole variety of reasons why martin may have left that no one has even mentioned here.

at the end of the day it’s not our business or concern: listen to the next record, decide if you like it. continue to be a fan or don’t.

really, it’s that simple.

Hmm, I’m not blaming anyone for what happened. If it was over money issues, then so be it. I’m not going to blame the band, or Martin, for whatever reason this has happened - everyone has their own reasons for making decisions.

Who am I to say? I don’t have a clue what happened. I’m just giving one possible expanation. This discussion was always likely to happen once the band gave the very vague explanation of “professional” reasons for Martins departure.

Unless they explain in more detail what happened, then everyone may have their own ideas to share. It’s human nature to be curious.

I wonder why…

Seriously though, I agree. It may be nice to say that it is/should be just about the music, but this isn’t just a faceless band that we can easily ignore, and disregard what happens within it. WE want to know because we care, though it often doesn’t work out like that.

Hm… since this outcome will definately have an effect on the future sound both in recordings and live performances, I’d have to disagree with you that it’s not our business or concern. We are fans. We do listen to the records, attend the shows, purchase the merchendise, support the band by spreading news of them and their continued existence through word of mouth.

If the band wanted to end all speculation, they would just come out and say why Martin was no longer a part of the band, rather than offer an ambiguous answer.

Imagine all the songs that will sound odd live, or the elements that might be missing from future records with the loss of the contributions made by Martin.

All these reasons and more make me and other fans wonder at what caused this sudden event to take place.

Anyways… To Martin- I hate to see you go. I hope this turns out to be the best thing for you, no matter the reasons.

To Andy, Michael, and Neil- May this be the best thing for you as well, no matter the reasons. Good luck, and I look forward to the next album!

Your fan,
Brian

what s/he said.

all the best for the future, and, seconded, also a big thank you, to martin. respect to andy, michael and neil.

and apart from that, considering we have no idea what this is about or what led to the decision, I think we’d best all take a step back.

Why would money be an issue? Everyone’s said about how Martin added a lot to the band, so surely the consequence of that thought (not saying I agree with it) is that T? without him is not so good? Not so good bands tend to earn less! I admit that £75k* between 3 people would leave them more each than £80k between 4, but I’ve never heard of a band making a member ‘redundant’ before, and I suspect that the real numbers wouldn’t stack up to support this argument.

That was because they thought they’d no loger have a need for their ‘Robbie, Robbie, show us your knobbie!’ banners - this never happened with T? because ‘Martin, Martin, please stop fartin!’ doesn’t have qite the same ring to it!

Robbie then went on to greater solo success though…

I totally agree… if Andy claims that Therapy? fans are the best fans in the world, I think we at least deserve some decent explanation here, not this kind of rock ‘n’ roll bullshit :(

To me it’s about showing some respect for your fans as well.

Yes, but Therapy? are not nearly as big as they once were. They haven’t had an album that made a serious dent in the charts since semi-detached, and even that was considered to be a flop.

I’d hate to think its true, butit is very possible that Andy and the rest thought that T? could only be financially viable as a 3 piece. Remember, these guys have families to support.

I really hope thats not the reason Martin left though.

I see that, but they have a record contract, they bring out albums regularily, they tour near enough half of the year.

This isn’t some small time band having to hold down jobs at the same time to make ends meet.

Fair enough they are not The Stones, but it can’t be that bad.

My guess would be that he left for financial reasons as well. Not to do with the other band members being greedy or anything but I’m sure they all have families to support and as a few people have mentioned Therapy? aren’t as popular as they used to be.

My first thought on that topic:
Wow.
Second thought: Fuck.

Can´t believe, that Martin has been kicked out of the band. That sounds a bit too “easy”

But it´d be quite interesting to have some further information by the “rest” of the band concerning Maritin leaving the band.

I don´t wanna be pessimistic, but for me it sounds like another “way down” for T?.

Martin was a very important factor for T?-live performances, as a he did a fine job on the guitar/cello and as a “second voice”.
I think it might be very hard for Mr. “Lumberjack-fingers” (*g*) Cairns to compensate a missing McCarrick.

Hopefully the songwriting goes in another “new” direction. don´t need another “biker-rock” album like “Shameless” and I don´t want a second Troublegum/High-Anxiety.

And shouting out to Andy, Michael and Neil: please invent a new Therapy?, as you always did…

And to Martin: All the best for your future, you´re a great musician!!

I hope that somebody will step forward and give some more information about Martin leaving Therapy?.

Everybody is guessing and people are trying to think of an explanation, it all seems so strange. I mean I don’t have to know all the details but I think that all fans really want to know WHY??

I hope that Martin will respond just like Graham did when he left.

This whole situation does not feel like it is right.
First they talk about new material and everyone is looking forward to hear it and now this terrible news.

I personally think it is a great loss, especially live and the cello parts.

Krisken and RobbyVDH are absolutely right. Off course we go on speculating, even rediculous possibilities like ‘money’ are mentioned. The only thing Andy, Michael and Neil can, must and have to do is be open to all of us and explain why Martin had to leave. I think we have a right to ask this from the band and we certainly deserve to know the exact reason, unless Martin himself asks us not to dig deeper into this matter.

So on behalf of all the fans I strongly urge Therapy? to put an end to all speculations and come out with the truth!
