Allright! there’s no need to get excited.I’m just stating my opinion as a fan like everyone else.I prefered T? as a three piece & never realy took onboard the 4th member that’s all.Sorry if I offended anybody. You lot are talking like he’s dead or something ‘you didn’t even know him’ he’s still the same guy isn’t he.

I felt compelled to join as a member to just voice my sadness at Martin’s unprecedented departure. His talent will stay in our minds for many years to come. I presume also that there is more to his leaving than meets the eye, though it is something that we can only speculate about. We must respect their anonymous position on this matter.
The very best of luck Martin.

This must be hard for Martin, cos he was eager to play again, as he said in his post(s) of the last couple of weeks. I don’t think that he expected this to happen.
Something else that bothers me: the post-Infernal Love songs were all written for a fourpiece, weren’t they? I wonder how these songs are going to sound without a second guitar player. Certainly some songs will never sound the same again!
Let’s just wait for some ‘official’ statement on this matter. I can’t imagine it’s a quarrel about money, that just doesn’t seem to fit with the image I have of Therapy?

Pretty sad news!! In the beginning I couldn’t accept Martin in the band, but he proved he was a good musician and a great guy. And now I feel pretty sad I ever thought about him like that. I’m really dissapointed he had to leave… No matter what happened I’ll miss him!!!
Martin, if you read this, I wish you all the best! Hope we’ll hear from you soon!!!

i loved the ‘cello-songs’.. especially on infernal love. thank you.

(but i think andy and michael made the right choice. now just find fyfe, and force him to join for one last album/tour :D ).

One last tour? You’ve already made your mind up on the total split?

BIG surprise martin left but this isn’t the first time this kinda thing has happened but they’ll get over it and so will we, even if the guy did rock big time.

Its a pity he’s left but the band had always been Andy & Michael for me. Life goes on. I can’t believe that he’d be sacked for financial reasons though - Im sure the band aren’t that badly off.

Title: Martin

This is a shame,
But i find it hard to believe Martin was “fired” - you could just picture Andy in a big fancy office suite, sitting in a big leather chair, smoking a cigar and telling Martin to clear out his desk - then Michael comes in dressed as a bouncer and manhandles him out of the room!
I dunno i think i am trying to make light of bad news.
Martin , you can play my cello anyday!

efiln, that was a fucking hilarious image, had me giggling for a good few minutes :)
to the people saying its about money and stuff,i seriously doubt it, therapy? have been in worse places than this before and nothing happened, i think this is just life, probably the ear problem.
in fairness, therapy? are an all for one one for all kinda band, theyre not greedy, money hungry or sell outs, theyre all good friends, and i think there has been a lot of unfair comments been made about andy and michael. its just a new transition, they were a 3 piece before, now they are again, its not the end of the world :)
But to martin, your a great guitarist and cellist, and you can see just by the comments here, how much people will miss you, thanks
Patrik

Yeah, that’s very strange. I know they respect us as much as we respect them, but T? must know there’s a discussion going on here. So, once again I ask you Andy, Michael and Neil to be honest with us. Don’t be afraid, we won’t bite… But, silence will only make things worse!!

Hi there,
Just realised Therapy? will be back a trio again.
Martin leaving T? sounds pretty fucked up to me, wish him luck, and thnx for those nice years.
The only light at the end of the tunnel is that it will not mean that T? will quit.
So however…let’s rock on in 2004!!!!

Bye

I’ve gotta agree with lots that’s been said.

Martin will be sorely missed. A great musician, happy to make his contribution without having to be the centre of attention and, by all accounts, a top guy who always found time for the fans.

It would be nice if either party could say something to end the speculation, but if not, we have to respect that because we don’t know what has gone on. On the other hand both sides will know that in the absence of this, speculation is inevitable because recent news has been contradictory.

It’s sad news, but not a suprise (to me at least). When no mention was made of Martin’s absence at the Leeds gig on the recent tour (and at other gigs too, according to WoMmers)it was a bad sign.

Whover made this decision, my opinion is that it’s a bad one for the band musically - all the reasons why are in the many posts above this one, but sometimes there are reasons above and beyond the music…

I wish both sides all the best and hope that Martin knows that he’s got lots of fans on these boards.

Martin: Thanks for all the music - and let us know what you do next.

Maybe if it has all been as sudden and surprising event to Martin/the others as some people have suggested, there’s a chance of legal action (I’m guessing the band operated as a partnership and as such Martin can’t have been ‘wrongfully dismissed’ but I suspect that there is some sort of legal mechanism for such situations). If that’s the case, then both sides would probably be advised to avoid discussing matters on an open furm like this until things have been sorted.

Hey Citizen.

Good common sense stuff.

Just to add: Even if there’s no legal action (hope it doesn’t come to that) a break-up ‘agreement’ could include a ‘don’t talk about it’ clause.

Speculation’s still inevitable, though.

Is this some indecent proposal?

By now I’m just curious what happened and how therapy? will sound in the future. I hope they make some stuff like Nurse again.
Maybe this is an answer for all the people who were eager to hear some bass on the next album.

Title: Martins Choice???

Hi

Ive just joined here, but been lurking for a while.

Is it not true that Martin used to be in the Banshees? I read in the paper the other day that their main guitarist had died, found in a hotel room.

Perhaps due to commitments, they required a guitarist quickly, and approached Martin to re-join. I am sure he enjoyed playing with them before they split.

This would constitute the Professional decision cited by Andy.

Just a thought

Title: BAD NEWS

personally i never understood why martin joined therapy? anyway. don’t get me wrong, they’re one of my favourtie bands, but to me martin always seemed too talented for them! he can sing for a start, excellent guitarist and chellist and seems like an allround muso / session musician type of guy.

think this is a BAD thing for the band, live and recorded!

He played on at least one Banshees album (I think it was either Peepshow, which is really good, or the one after that), I’m not certain he constituted a member of the band as such. I suspect it’s just coincidence, as the Banshees split a couple of years back, with Siouxsie and Budgie saying they were going to concentrate on The Creatures, but I guess its not outside the realms of possibility.

Martin played cello and arranged strings for Skunk Anansie on the Stoosh album while he was still a member of T? so whatever the reasons are for his departure i don’t think its him wanting to work with another band.

I suppose whoever made the decision to part ways did not take the decision lightly and so I can understand that the people involved are not quite ready to talk about it yet - 9 years is a fucking long time, if you just spilt would you want to pour your heart out on a public forum, maybe saying something you later regret or just get your head together for a few days?

I’m sure everyone involved is feeling pretty gutted about the whole situation at the moment and a bit of time to get things in perspective is expected.

I just hope all the guys are ok and remember that Therapy? are a fantastic fuckin band and the fans are thinking about them at a difficult time.

Therapy’s best music was when they were a 3 piece and thats a fact.To be quite honest I have lost some faith in T? since they lost Fife, once you lose a key member you start to lose the magic and while the music has been great post Infernal Love it has never hit the quality of the early days. Im sorry for Martin that he’s gone and I know he’s a lovely guy having met him a few times over the years but I believe T? will come back more focused than ever.

Its the kick up the arse that they need to get back on track.
