Maiden or Priest?

#

Started by Superunknown

Two metal legends, both funny as hell. It’s hard to say who’s better (I’ve only just gotten into Judas Priest, known Iron Maiden’s music for quite some time). To help you decide, go by these questions:

1. Rob Halford or Bruce Dickinson?
2. Which band’s frontman-substitute caused more pain in your ass? Ripper Owens or Blaze Bailey?
3. Which band had the better album covers?
4. Which guitar duo is better? K.K. Downing & Glenn Tipton or Dave Murray & Adrian Smith (respectively Janick Gers)
5. Which band would you put in the headlining spot if they did a tour together?

My decisions:

1. Rob Halford - I like both guys but Halfords voice is just more diverse and Dickinson’s gives me headaches after 5 songs.

2. Ripper Owens - He was actually kind of good. Bailey seemed as appropriate for Iron Maiden as Kermit the frog. I’m still glad Halford is back with Priest, though.

3. Iron Maiden - no contest. I have always loved Eddie.

4. K.K. Downing & Glenn Tipton - again, Priest is more diverse in this category. Dave Murray & Adrian Smith perfected playing in two voices, but they never changed their style. Glenn Tipton is pretty fast.

5. Iron Maiden - in the 80’s Priest was a bit more successful, I guess, but now people have almost forgotten them. Maiden are as popular as ever, mainly due to Eddie and not their music.

I can’t give Judas Priest enough credit for being so diverse. It’s a long way from a song like “Epitaph” to something like “Painkiller”. You gotta keep in mind that in the beginning the band was similar to Led Zeppelin and then they turned into that thrash monster by the end of the 80’s.
Iron Maiden, on the other hand, is every fan’s dream band. They had so many gimmicks, so many special collectables, it’s awesome.
At the end of the day Iron Maiden wins by a nose, for me.

In this poll I had to answer Iron Maiden though.
Nobody that has brought out a song like Turbo Lover (the title even) deserves to be preferred over Maiden.

I went for Maiden, despite the Blaze Bailey disaster… Bruce Dickinson on vocals kicks ass… and Eddie rocks big time, especially now since I know that it’s actually an old T? roadie :D

I agree that they have several brilliant songs… Painkiller, Beyond The Realms Of Death, …

And Burn In Hell with mr Ripper Owens isn’t too bad as well ;)

Has to be Maiden! first album I ever bought was Live after Death. Finally saw them live in December for the first time - absolutely cracking band. I almost caught Steve Harris’s sweaty wristband too - it fell off and the security guard gave it to some other dude

Neither, but I voted for Judas Priest, because of their attitude.

I’d also go for AC/DC, but with these limited choices available I have to say Iron Maiden, but only for their old hits. The new stuff is really poor (and I’ve grown out of my metal phase).

By the way, it’s nice you included an option for Hooch. :)

1. Bruce, although it’s a tough call. Both brilliant.

2. Ripper Owens sucked more than Blaze.

3. I think Eddie looks better than any of the Priest covers. British Steel? What the hell is up with that?

4. K.K. Downing & Glenn Tipton are preferable to Murray and Smith, but again it’s a close call.

5. Maiden. Priest don’t have the same pulling power.

I guess Maiden wins for me.

Well!!!!! Let’s see…

1. Rob Halford. Much better range in his voice. There is nobody else alive who can do VICTIM OF CHANGES like ol’ Rob.

2. I thought Blaze sucked more than Ripper. I have the 2 JP albums with Ripper. Jugulator was very cheesy but good and Demolition was a damn fine album. X-Factor and Virtual XI from Maiden just didn’t do it for me.

3. Maiden had better album covers, hands down!!!

4. K.K. Downing & Glenn Tipton over Murray and Smith. Just check out the SAD WINGS OF DESTINY album. Fantastic stuff!
And on the other side of the JP coin, check out the PAINKILLER album. Fucking amazing stuff…!!!!!

5. Maiden would have to headline. Just because they are obviously crowd favourites. And they are one of the most excellent live bands on the planet. You will never hear a crowd sing along to any other band like they do at a Maiden gig.
But a co-headlining tour would be nice.

Actually! JUDAS PRIEST are confirmed as Special Guests to OZZY on the American Ozzfest tour this year. They are second on the bill to OZZY.

AC/DC would win my vote too. But from the options provided I’d go with Iron Maiden. But, to be honest, I’m not at all familiar with Judas Priest.

Never got into Priest…cause the vocals really annoy me.
Hahaha…

1. Bruce.
2. Blaze really…he’s not that bad of a singer…the songs just didnt fit him and by the time he joined, Maiden wrote the dullest uninspiring song in their carreer. eww
3. Maiden of course!
4. Hmmm…though
5. Maiden.

Yep, I love that version!

Isn’t it a bit alarming that there are already 3 votes for Timberlake?

The studio versions are pretty lame if you listen them afterwards.
