Support bands

#

Started by Ian Hayllar

Firstly, great site…have seen yours, Alex’s and Brendons and they are packed with info.

A suggestion for the site (it may already be buried in here somewhere)
what about the support bands T? have had over the years?

the ones I can remember over the years include Rico, CopshootCop, PuppyLoveBomb (i think they supported them in 95).

Anyone else got any ?

Yep Groop Dog Drill and of course Skunk Anansie back in 1995, I’ll never forget that gig in utrecht, me and my friends were wondering the whole show whether Skin was a male or female…

The Spermbirds, Terrorvision… one of my favorites is Pet Lamb and Skunk Anansie, Mudhoney in France (‘95) , MSP in France (‘94). I must sat the support this tour in Holland was nothing to write home about.

I can remember Doughboys opening for T? in Europe a few years back, and then T? opening for Doughboys on the Canadian leg of the tour. T? also did some dates in the US with the Rollins Band back in 93 or 94.

I talked to Andy and Graham about this in Rotterdam, and they said this year the supports bands were supposed to be all local bands. So they’d get a chance to play a good live gig and get some audience to hear them. There in Nighttown there wasn’t any band, and the same goes for a few more venues. The venue told them there were no local bands available, which was of course bollocks. They had a band without a record deal in 013 Tilburg, the band was called End Of April, which was ok. In de Melkweg, Amsterdam there was MXPX and Less Than Jake. MXPX, from origin a ‘Christian Punk’ band was really good. Less Than Jake were just a bunch of very stupid drunk americam motherfuckers. And they sucked too. They had 2 bands in de Melkweg Hopefully next year when they do Holland again they want to have this band called Soundcheck as their support band for one or more Holland gigs.
We gave them a demo anyway.

They had 2 bands in de Melkweg, because they combined 2 concerts.

I went to see Less Than Jake headline at Highbury Garage, and they weren’t drunk and they were brilliant. MxPx were _OK_ and will be better in a few years, I guess, but LTJ are cool.

T? in Toronto in 1996 (I think) at Lee’s Palace had Girls Vs. Boys opening, plus this wicked, noisy band from NYC called Skeleton Key. Oh, and my mate’s former band, Knockout Pill (a light pop outfit), were also offered a spot at one free show several back. That was cool, cos we were all friends, so Michael and Andy came to offer support check them out.
