You’re not going out dressed like that…

I badly need some new threads, so have roped my girlfriend’s mum to help me go clothes shopping in the week - she’s got a good sense of style, but unfortunately, she’s also got quite a taste for things with ‘D&G’ and ‘Gucci’ on, which I hate because I refuse to dress in a way that might give other people the thought that I’d pay £60 for a £12 T-shirt because of it’s label.

I also hate to wear e.g. Ben Sherman stuff with a name on it regardless of the price. Never met Ben Sherman, so why wear his T-shirt? I’ll stick to T? T’s…

Same goes for Fcuk. It’s not funny, it never was, either say fuck or fcuk off. Tosser.

Label’s like O’Neill and Quicksilver I could possibly bear with, although am still deciding if that makes me a whore. It might.

So what do you all dress like (Goth? Skate-punk? Banker?) & what would look good on a 30 yo T? fan?

shoping for clothes is always a pain in the ass for me. i just like it plain simple and wide, but most stuf you find has some stupid design or logos to it and if not, the quality is shit. i really like the stuff you find at skateshops, but they always have massive logos on it and i don’t want to look like a giant advertise.

Skater-chic does quite appeal, except for the fact that I can’t skate, and am 30, therefore would look ridiculous (you young whipper-snapper, WP!;)). Plain black may feature heavily in any purchases

I guess I dress more conservatively than most of you guys here. I pretty much never wear any band t-shirts or skater gear anymore, I think I only have about 3 band t-shirts and the rest I’ve either given away to charity or my brother.

I tend to wear mid-price stuff that’s cool.. mainly Scandinavian labels at the moment, so you probably won’t know them :) Just in case you want to look them up, my main labels are Jack n Jones, Blend Of America, Revolution and H&M.

I generally wear a shirt, t-shirt or a tight jumper and jeans/trousers. I’ve got a huge collection of vintage t-shirts too. I’ve also committed that most serious of fashion crimes of heterosexual men - I *gasp* own more than 1 pair of shoes :)

I also always wear a leather jacket. I’ve got 3 - one black with lapels, one cream-coloured with lapels and a black round-collared one.

In short, my fashon icon is Tyler Durden.

If you’re wanting plain black t-shirts, you should have a look at the Levi’s crewcut t-shirts. They sell them in pairs of 2 here, but I think they only sell singles in Britain. They’re about £7 - £10 and they’ve seriously got the best cuts of any t-shirt I’ve tried.

If you’re looking for black jeans, the Levi’s 507, 516 and 518 are what I recommend. They’re all bootcut, which will level out the legs a bit more. You might have to search a while for one’s that aren’t pre-faded (you know what I mean, with grey patches that are supposed to make them look “worn in”?), but they’re well worth it.

Plain black jumpers are IMO best done by H&M. They’re cheap and come in loads of designs and cuts. Should be less than £20.

In your inbox, although not up late tonight - have some liver issues to resolve from nights out on Thurs & Fri ;)

Also need to know where to get decent black boots, as the shops seem to have none that Ilike at present :(

At least you never run the risk of clothes clashing!

I’m the same - although its down to being lazy and having a pathalogical hatred for shopping.

I fucking hate shopping - all those shows like What Not To Wear drive me up the wall. Those 2 women act like your life is meaningless unless you can pick out the right size shirt or whatever. Having fly threads is always good, but still.. there’s more to life.

Nice topic Citizen, I myself really couldn’t care less about clothes or trademarks either. I hardly ever wear anything else than bandshirts/ sweaters etc, with some jeans underneath. I can’t wait to go out and buy some new shirts this summer at the festivals and concerts. The few times I had expensive trademarks covering my arse my destructive” me” made sure they didn’t last long. I also think it would look very strange on me, I wouldn’t feel comfortable in poloshirts, or” trendy” clothes…I wouldn’t be RockinRonald anymore!

Question: Who has, like me, never ever worn a proper suit, with a tie and stuff…I navere have and I have got the feeling I am not the only one here!

It really depends on my mood what I wear. I wear everything from jeans to polo shirts basically, and the occasional ‘CCCP’ cardigan/sweater of course!
And I do wear a suit occasionally, for things like job interviews. I don’t mind wearing a suit at all actually, I feel rather comfortable in it to be honest!

No, not even to funerals. In my humble opinion suits just make funerals even more horrible than they already are. When a loved one dies I am gonna say goodbye as he/she knew me…the way I am. Some traditions are so oldfashioned and out of date!

Its quite possible to look rock and roll in a suit. Black suit, black shirt. Smart chain to your wallet. Black or wine-red tie. Nothing smarter than a nice suit.

I’m a baggy trousers boy, but now and again you have to make an effort. It surprises the girls that know you and they get all giggly and say things like: “Uh you clean up nicely” and “My you are looking smart tonight”.

Hugo Boss. Blam!

I wore the good ol’ black suit/black shirt/black tie combo to an interview. Smartened up my mess of hair, and refused to smile. Managed to intimidate the interviewer and got the job. :)

But it was shit…

I do own a couple of suits but they rarely get used. I also have a tuxedo but it only really comes out at new year- except for the one time when eight of us went to a local Drum n Bass night, all in tuxedos, and danced our legs off for hours. It was funny as fuck to us but I don’t think anyone else there understood- alot either left or just looked on in disbelief :D

Suits can rock - every once in a while anyway. I have to wear shirt and tie to work but wearing a suit can be pretty good - i once played a gig in one - was a bit hot tho!

Terry Pratchett said the same, then added “it goes with everything, eventually”

Work used to be cool black shirt & suit combos, but that would probably scare the people I visit now, so the black shirts tend to get saved for days in the office (no suit bar the birthday one). Up to now I have thought of clothes shopping as something you do after getting to the venue but before Therapy? (or occassionally someone else)come on, which has made the proliferation of hoodies at gigs a bitter blow.

Have promised myself DMs if I can’t find anything else for my feet by the end of the month/cash, whichever comes first. Will let you know how tomorrow goes…

I go for plain black or white v-neck t-shirts, y’know the really loose ones, and loose boot-cut jeans. They have to be boot-leg, nothing else will do. I wear all sorts of footwear, from trainers to Doc Martins to black suede boaters.

It’s a pretty average look, I just hate shopping for clothes so I really end up with anything “cool” or “hip”, although I would like to change my look I guess.

I thought Therapy’s ‘look’ in 1996 was well cool actually - long hair, goatees, facial piercings, shades, all black clothes. Anyone remember Michael’s kwik-fit uniform and black Mario t-shirt? Ace.

But that’s me, 8 years behind the fashion :D

Personally I probably tend to dress like most 32-year-old women do. Sometimes I spend more money on clothing, if I really want to have that piece. But that happens once a year. And I really, really don’t like people running round with their shirts turned left, so everybody can see it’s Benetton or stuff.
In my free time, esp. on concerts, it’s something else. Collegues wouldn’t recognize me then. :D
