Red Bull… oh dear God, that stuff will rot your teeth quicker than acid. Or something. That stuff’s banned here in Norway (it is however, perfectly legal to buy it in Sweden and take it back with you for your own consumption. But then, so is beastiality porn).
When I was at uni in Edinburgh we used to get that Red Bull rip-off drink they sell at Tesco’s, Kick, to get us through cramming for exams. I think 100 ml of the stuff contains 1200% of your daily recommended intake of B12
Glad you made the journey alright though.
Anyway. The T? live album. I hope it’ll be really good and that it won’t be… “enhanced” like a lot of other ones are. A good EQ fix is one thing, re-recording bits and putting them in the mix is something KISS would do.

It’s true, I took part in a blind taste-test comparing the two, and I’ll never smile again.

Yeah, I hate it when that happens. It’s like some live albums should have a sticker on the back saying ‘Based on a true gig’.

That ‘it was three o’clock in the morning’ quote on Nurse - that reminds me of a night of Vodka Red Bulls, am sure the stuff is burning out my synapses.
Live albums shouldn’t be tinkered with beyond cleaning them up a bit - although not to the extent of the start of the dvd where you can’t hear the crowd

It’s an utter disgrace that if T? actually will release a live-cd, it will be have no cello! Fuck, ever since Martin’s out I’ve got this constant bad taste about one of my favorite bands ever.
Sorry to bring it up again BUT I never replied to any messages for ages. I just can’t believe the business as usual thing that is going on right now with the tour… Andy & Michael have become company men to me, honestly. You might disagree but to me they are… they should have listened to Joe Strummer twenty years after The Clash sacked Topper Headon… NEVER EVER change the winning formula. Or something like that,
they will soon realise something is wrong… I hope…
Cheerz to Martin an cheerz to y’all,

Think your comments on the band are unfair - would be surprised if there’s any big conspiracy theory.

I won’t miss the cello that much. I definitely think it added to the sound, but if it means there won’t be an airing of “Diane”, that’s more than OK :)

Thats a bit harsh, what about Fyfe leaving the band way back in the day. And correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Martin join the band on stage to play Cello on some stuff before he was even a full member of the band? In fact he must have done because he joined after Infernal Love. If they can bring him in as a session cellist then I’m sure they will but if he can’t or won’t do it and they feel they really need cello then they will just get someone else in who can.
The business as usual thing is just as much for the band as it is for the fans. I’m sure that if the band had gone out every night as a 3 piece and died on their arses then they would have seriously considered their future together but since they are doing a great job i doubt they will(although they still might).
My band has lost members that we loved playing with on more than one occasion and we have had to look at the future of the band as a yes or no question. Each time the answer has been yes because its about the music. 99% of all writing is done by either myself or the gutarist but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a void left when we change drummers or bassists. you just have to take the songs in and see how much needs rebuilt to make it as close to the original idea as possible. Fortunately a lot of the T? songs can be done with just 1 guitar because Andy is a great guitarist (lest ye forget that he did it all himself at the start).
So they no longer have the luxury of a 2nd guitarist but its not as if they always had one anyway.

Thats your advice for a band on their 4th line up?

What’s wrong with saying what I just said? I don’t like “Diane”. At gigs, it’s the only song that I leave the pit for to go use the toilet or get a drink.
Live the cellos to me are a nice touch, but Martin only really whips it out (ooh-err) once or twice during a gig. I doubt I’ll miss the cellos.
What I’ll miss is the interaction between all 4 members, Martin’s stage persona and the 2nd guitar.
Hopefully the loss of a 2nd guitar will prompt Michael to write more “busy” bass-lines.

Cheerz, you made some good points there. Especially talking about your own band. I apologise if I sounded a bit harsh, just had to get it out of my system or whatever you wanna call it…

Your wrong about the Clash though! Are you really talking Clash with Keith Levene, Clash with Terry Chimes and Clash as a treesome before Topper Headon joined here? Anyway, I’m talking definitive line-up here… don’t get me wrong, I’m still a Fyfe-era fan myself, but the 10-year-plan-tour was such a triumphant one I always considered it the definitive line-up,
not making a lot of sense here I’m afraid, cheerz y’all,

Don’t worry, some of my friends said very similar things when Jason Newstead left Metallica even though most thought the classic line up was with Cliff Burton anyway.
It was class that they got Robert Trujilo to replace him though. Made them all raise their game because he was such a talented guy. I like the fact that T? have no immediate plans to replace Martin though.
Neil is their best drummer since Fyfe and i think that is maybe reminding Andy and Michael of where and how they started. Sometimes its good to strip things back and see what you have. I wonder if they have had any Spinal Tap style “Its not my tune, its Martin’s tune” discussions about the set.
If they write a song about Martin’s departure i vote they call it Heavy Hole (any non-Spinal Tap fans, i’d like to point out that Heavy Hole is a homage to the 3 gods of all things rock [David, Nigel and Derek] rather than an insult).

The reference to Rob Trujilo only applies to the live show btw. Bob Rock played bass on St. Anger and Rob was hired after recording had finished.
