Oh and think I should say that your ride setup sounds pretty special and individual man, which begs the question- what drummers do you draw inspiration from?

Think thats it, but I’m drunk so… :)

Yeah i just this minute saw that article. White cymbals look cool. I guess it must be paint as they look to be a bit tatty in places.

The drummers I love are :

1.Steve White - Who I have seen on a clinic tour - amazing.
2.Danny Carey - Awesome
3.Jimmy Chamberlain - Awesome
4.Lars Ulrich - Original.
5.Dave Grohl - of course !
6.Graham Hopkins, Fyfe Ewing and Neil Cooper…

Can’t argue with that list! :) If I started thinking about it though, I’d start listing everyone I’ve ever heard! Bonham, Mitchell etc…

Just on clinics- I saw Steve Smith a few years ago and he was amazing- playing between two kits at once while pulling different pieces of each in to make a new one, pretty immpressive way to end!

Those kits sound pretty damn impressive man! The thing is over here (England anyway) DW are sort of known for being expensive. I looked up a kit somewhere between your setups to give an idea;

DW collectors red onyx
20 X 16
8 X 7
10 X 8
12 X 9
14 X 11 H (does that H means it needs a holder?)

This comes out at £1999. I stuck that in a currency convertor and it came out at about $3500 just for those shells and no hardware! My entire kit has cost my around £4000 or a bit more- have a look back up this thread for it. Well, when that lottery win happens eh? :)

I have to say though I personally don’t know anyone has a bad word to say about DW’s and the drum mags I read always love them.

Not too sure on the Mapex front, I know two huys with Mapex kits and I played on one of them at a gig. However the guy had clearly never touched the lugs and the heads were old and badly worn so he messed up the sound of the entire kit. They do seem pretty popular though from the amount you see around at gigs and what not. Still, your probably best waiting for one of the other guys to reply about Mapex because they play them and know more about them than I do. :)

Okay, Let’s get this strate.

1, I’m not Neil cooper, i’m just 1 of his puples and friends.
2, I didn’t play on the therapy? album, [allthough i wish i did!]

But i’ll let neil know that there is a fan congratulating him on his drumming.

Mapex are fantastic drums for shure, The most depressing thing i know is that Not many drummers i know use mapex.

It’s either Tama, Pearl, Ludwigg, or Yamaha.

Further note, I love the sound of dw drums aswell.

Further note, It’s my 19th birthday today, So i’m hoping to take it easy today.

Singerland eh? I’ve never played on a singerland so I don’t know too much about them except for all the obvious stuff. Its the same for me with Rogers even though I know a guy with two Rogers kits. What would go for after the Singerland?

Just as another little offshoot- I met a drummer in a pub a few weeks back, within 5 minutes we’d lost the people who were with us, appaerently my mates heard “Oh, I’m a drummer too!” and decided to run before I kept them there like normal “We’ll be done in a sec!” for a hour or so. I do remember discussing our fav rudiments, how very drummer eh? So off course the question is, fav rudiments everyone? :) I think I like my 5 stroke rolls abit too much- I try putting them in any/everywhere I can- even right in the middle of metal songs just to see if I can do them.

Oh, and another, having given the setups, has anyone got any pics of their kit? I was thinking of taking some of mine and Squall asked me about it as well so I think I may finally get it done and put some up. Maybe we could have an award for cheesiest facial expression while playing as well? Maybe not :)

Seeing as I’ve finally put these pics from over a year ago together I thought I’d put the result up here, its certainly not the best effort pic-wise but nevermind. The kits grown since then too- extra bass drum, elimantor pedals and little things like a cymbal stacker off the china and a stick bag hung off the 14” tom.

Enjoy!?

Paiste used to make the Sound Vision line which was a black cymbal line.Probably the same process but with white.Terry Bozzio used to use them when he was with Paiste. They were cooler to look at than to listen to…

My first thought on those cymbals was that they look cool but but surely would kill the sound as whatever it is thats going over the cymbal would start to fill in the grooves on it and you’d lose tone and projection.

Weird things those cymbals…

Title: A picture of a KIT very similar to mine indeed

I found this picture on the internet and its so much like my kit it may as well be. I have a white Tama Rockstar 4 piece with the ride over the bass drum where the 13” tom should be. I have a 18” crash just above that and a china to the right of that.

On the other side i have my double bass pedal my hi hats and my 16” crash just over the Tom. I also have an upside down 10” splash on my ride for trashy ride moments ;)

I only have one floor tom right now but i hope to get another soon !!

Hey guys since this is the official kit thread and I’m the newest drummer round here thought I’d add my pride and joy.

Pacific by DW LX series Natural Finish (:D)
10x8 tom
12x9 tom
14x12 hanging tom
16x14 floor tom
14x 5.5 snare

Cymbals all Zildjian

18 A Medium Thin Crash
18 A Rock Crash
20 A Custom Ping Ride
13 A Custom Projection Hi Hats

Tend to use the 12 and 16 toms the most and have just started using the 10 inch again but i need to invest in another boom stand as i supend it off of a mount on my left crash which means the crash is way left as i use my only boom stand for the right crash. Gonna hopefully have the whole Stewart Copeland three rack toms thing goin on soon but i need to save up for some evans genera g2 coateds for the 10 and 14 toms. Oh yeah and Pro Mark 420 Intruder sticks. Also on the wish list is a Sabian Hand hammered 20 Dark Chinese, 8 A Custom Splash and 8 EFZ #1.

How long have you been playing and who are your personal fave/most inspiring players MFAAL? (its a long name man, sorry ;) Welcome to the WoM though :) )

I get to go into a studio for free on the 16th and 17th to record the drum tracks for my bands demo- I get to walk into a studio one morning and my kit will be waiting, all setup and whatnot! :D The main thing though is that I get to record both my bass drums on the go for the first time! Fuck I’m excited!

That sounds wicked just being able to walk in like that it can be frustrating havin to set up and then getting into the right frame of mind. Well, I’ve been playing nearly 4 years and as far as inspiration goes the drummers that got me into playing mainly Dave Grohl, Chad Smith, Bonham, Copeland (so foot triplets and hi hat trickery galore!!!)but these days im inclined to listen to Steve Gadd, Billy Cobham and generally gettin my arse in gear and practising my double strokes and whatnot. But yeh what else can i say i love drums man.

Nice pick of drummers by the way- but get some Fyfe/Grahman/Super Cooper in there ;) :)

Do you have any picks of the kit you could put up on here? Theres an old one of mine on this thread somewhere- page or so back

Since there are no pictures that i have available, i can’t poast any.

For the past 2 years, i’ve been a lover of mapex drums, zildjian cymbals and vickfirth drum sticks.

I’d like to be more adventurous in my drum style and setup. An accoustic drumset at the front, and a semi accoustic kit at the back with rolland v drum pads and peddles to trigger sounds.

I’ve recently became an admira of Death leppard’s Rick allen, And so 1 of my biggest ambittions in the future, is to drum 1 handed, and use my left foot for the snare beats.

Further news on my current kit.

Nothing new, but stay tuned..

Recording went belly up- I’m now down to six hours this weekend. The guy left it too late to book it and so they were putting protools into the studio and I could only get 3 hours then or six this sat. Bit more rushed but hopefully it’ll be cool.

Tama Bell Brass eh? Nice, but expensive- I played on a 14” X 3.5” I think the shallow one anyway- that was £400 second hand! Happy hunting though mate :)

Black pantfer snare drums are good.

Although neil thinks that The fosferous bronze snares are fantastic! However, he’s got the final model, and now fosferous bronze snares are not made anymore. My advice is to try out several different mapex snares and then see if you could pick the best.

that’s all the advice i could give.
