Neil’s Kits.

#

Started by Cooper'sdrummer

Hie.

Most of you would probably not know about Neil’s Pre therapy days, so i’m going to list the equipment he used before and during the Therapy days.

The Beyond days.

The beyond was Neil’s first band with a record contract. In those days, Neil used a Pearl Mapel 7 piece kit with 2 20 x 16 inch bass drums, a free floating snare, and toms, 10, 12, 14 and 18. He Uses powerstroke 3 heads on the bass drums and Snare drums, and pint stripes on the toms. Cymbals were a mixture of Zildjian, Sabian and Paiste. A pair of 14 inch Avedis Zildjian rock high hats, an 18 inch Rock Crash from Avedis, An avedis medium 19 inch crash [i think, i’ll have to ask him!] A paiste alfer power crash 20 inches, a 20 inch avedis zildjian Ping ride, a 20 inch china boy low, and a paiste signiture 10 inch splash.

The garilla days.
Garilla is actually the beyond’s New name, and they didn’t last long. Neil Uses the Same kit, but on 1 song, he used a Premia 22 x 18 bass drum.

Cable Days.
Another derby based Band, And Neil is still using the same Kit.

When I first Met Neil, He’d just had an indorsment from Zildjian, A pair of 14 inch Avedis zildjian rock high hats, an 18 inch Avedis Zildjian rock Crash, a 19 inch Z custom medium crash [used as a crash ride], a 20 inch Z custom ride, a 20 inch Z custom china, and a zilbell cymbal size unknown.

He also has a 22 inch Avedis zildjian ride, which he never uses. But he lent it to me in april 2003.

Therapy days.

Just before he Joined therapy, He switched from Pearl Drums to Mapex Drums [Note, he isn’t indaused by them, he only plays them]. I had a brief go on his kit in the shop, and it sounded fantastic!. Compaired to the pearl, the mapex kit is toned down in number of components, and he changed the bass drum sizes to 22 x 18. For toms, he uses 12 and 18 toms only. Snare drums, he retained the free floating snare drum, though on songs like Hay saten, you rock, stand in line, and rust to name a few, He uses a 14 by 6.5 mapex maple snare drum. As for drum heads, He experimented with several different heads, but now he plays aquarian heads exclusively. For the sessions for high angziety, he used the same cymbal set up, until both crash cymbals, the china and the Ride cracked in amsterdam, and zildjian failed to send any replacements. so now, he uses sabian, plus the zilbell that he retained from the original zildjian set up.

Vertually all of his career, he uses Vickfirth 5a drum sticks, reasons being that the stick is thin, and light.

And that fokes is it! hope you injoyed it!

Oh and 1 final note. It’s not possible to find any beyond, garilla or cable records in the shops, They are not in stock, and are probably Deleated! However, i have got both Beyond albums, Crawl and Chasm at home. I borowed both cds from Neil, and made coppies for my self. Neil didn’t mind 1 bit!, neither did Andy gatford, the Guitarist for the beyond.

A slight amendment to the information above.

The pearl bass drums that are 20 x 16, are actually 20 x 18.

And i found out what the cymbal was, It was a sabian 19 inch medium crash.

I don’t think so, and in any case, I’m quite unpopular with girls. Iuse to have a girl friend, but the relationship fell to bits, like it did on many others so that’s the reason why i don’t have a girl friend. And a further note, Read my last entry on
Kits of the world.
And you’ll find that my Name isn’t neil.

He actually had 2 free floating snare drums when he was with the beyond, but he doesn’t use both of them, and he soled 1 off with his pearl kit. New equipment is a tama mapel 14 inch snare drum, and a yamaha tymbale.

Yes i know, Crawl is fantastic.

I’m I’m afraid, that the beyond only did 2 albums, Crawl and chasm. After that they changed their name to garilla, but only recorded 3 singles before dispanding. There’s no third album, Only 2 albums and 3 singles.

To answer your question on how many sticks he uses, he gets through 3 pairs anight. And not supprising, 5a drumsticks are thin, not like the 5bs that i sometimes use.

That was last tour and during the never appologise, never explain sessions. Now, neil’s getting an indausment from mapex drums. The setup will be the same, minus the frefloating snare drum and probably tama picalo. His mapex snares will be either a fosferous bronze 14x6 snare, or a brass blackpanfer 14 by 6. But he tells me he would probably use the former, because he loves it so much. You’ll be able to see this kit when they go on tour at the end of the month.

Note, fosferous bronze snares from mapex are sadley in use by loads of drummers, and mapex drums won’t be making any more. in otherwords, these snares are a limited product of mapex drums

It is still me, though since i can’t access my own account on another computer, i had to create a new 1. So now i’ve got 2 accounts!

Let’s get to a couple of points.

May i remind you autosearjury that i created this thread to give you therapy fans everything related to neil’s drum equipment, hense the name. Kindley remind that before before chastising me, because i can always hit back if i want to.

On the subject of women, drugs and alcohol, Stuff it!

Druggs and alcohol had taken the lives of a good few of my influences [Kieth moon, Jim Morrison, John bonham] The list goes on. I hate alcohol, and i also hate druggs. Bit strange for a rock drummer who hates druggs, but it’s true, So stick that up your ass!].

As for women, I’ve been there, i’ve experienced it, i’ve got the t shirt. As far as i’m concerned relationships with women don’t last long, so that’s the reason why i’m working hard not to go and do a stupid and pointless thing like asking a girl out.

Another point that you brought up about my age. I’m 20, therefore i’m not a bloody child. So sod off!

Thank you.

I see your interested in the high angziety sound.

On the album, like i might have said above, Neil used a 14 x 5.5 maple black pantfer snare or the pearl free floating 14 by 6.5 brass snare drum.

Hear is the sought of thing neil does with his snare drums. In the case of the fre floating snares, he tunes them to the point where they are almost pulling out of the rings. With the picalos, he leaves the snares off to get the tymbali sound.
To answer your question gapue.

You won’t find mapexdrums on the internet search engines, but go to

http://www.mapexdrums.com.

You’ll be taken to the main home page.

Note, Neil won’t be on there yet, he has only been indaused by that company.
