GATES DROPPED RUMOURS
Well, if the ever reliable Sun is to be believed, Gareth Gates’ pop idol
days may be over. The tabloid reports that BMG has decided not to fund a
third album from the Pop Idol runner up following disappointing sales of his
second album, and a not-so-well-received performance at the Royal Albert
Hall last month.

An ‘insider’ told the paper: “It has finally happened. Gareth’s time at BMG
records has come to an end. He’s a lovely chap with great resilience but he
simply doesn’t sell records any more. There were initial meetings two months
ago saying he was to be canned but the final decision didn’t come until very
recently. To be honest, there were a few big players who saw Gareth at the
Royal Albert Hall a few weeks ago and they weren’t very impressed. It’s the
end of an era in pop. There’s no doubt that just a couple of years ago
Gareth was the biggest pop star in Britain.”

————————————————————————

“It’s the end of an era in pop”? What the fuck? The guy was popular for about a year. Hardly an era. “The biggest pop star in Britain?” When he sells more records and plays bigger gigs than Elton John or George Michael, do let me know.

How I laughed when he had a biography out. I just imagine it being filled with captions to photos reading like “This is from early in my career, circa May”.

Fuck Gareth Gates. Idiots like him have nothing to do in the music business, because they’re all about the money. If they’d have gained popularity through grass-roots fans, touring and steadily building a fan-base, they’d not see such a sudden drastic drop in sales. Sure, varying popularity is to be expected, but because these acts are hyped to fuck, all the 14 year-old girs who watch the shows go out and buy them, but they don’t really give a fuck about the artist, because in 15 minutes someone new is going to come a long and steal the show. Therapy? have proved that there is life after a major-label deal falls through, you just need to have dedicated fans.

These short term cash-flow solution acts are the scum of the Earth. I just pray most of the other Pop Idol “megastars” meet similar fates soon. End of rant.

I can’t believe I’m going to do this but… He’s actually a nice person you know. Might not be my cup of tea, but he did some lovely things when my cousin was terminally ill, and for her family after she died. So although his music might be a load of corporate wank generally, he’s alright in my book.

I’m sure he is a nice guy, but I just don’t like his music or the way the industry handles acts like him. I know there’ll be a place for pop music, but I just don’t like being force-fed the current rubbish they classify as pop while I see good bands having to slog it on the toilet circuit, not making a penny off their music. I know it’s not supposed to be about the money, but everyone’s got to make a living at the end of the day.

He most definately did. She took his cherry. He admitted it and eveything. He couldn’t deny it after she descibed his manhood. There’s something odd about it apparently, but I never found out what…

Is anyone going to watch the Eurovision Song Contest next Saturday?
I think it’s the appropriate place for artificial pop-shite like GG.

 Oops, I shouldn’t have typed GG, it reminds me of GG anderson, one of Germany’s crappiest Schlager stars of all times.

I will, but not for the GG type of music (does it make any difference whether Gates or Anderson?)

Heard the turkish song? It’s ska , I’m afraid very few people will understand that.

Why not? Even Scooter did well in our pre-selection for the contest, and I doubt that his Kirmes techno is easier to devour than ska, at least for those people who will watch the show on Saturday.

That dickhead music Scooter are making isn’t hard to understand. Just switch off your brain. Thank God, they didn’t make it. But ska is something else, in my opinion. It’s nearly an alternative music style, and as far as I can tell most of the GP viewers will be more of the pop kind. Well, we’ll see.

IMBRUGLIA RE-SIGNS TO BMG, GATES WANTS TO GO CLASSICAL
Natalie Imbruglia has signed to a new BMG imprint, despite being previously
dropped by the major’s mainstream label RCA. Imbruglia is one of the first
signings to a new BMG label set up by former Innocent Records boss Hugh
Goldsmith and former Telstar man Jeremy Marsh. A friend of Imbruglia has
told the Mirror: “Nat’s really a rock chick. But RCA wanted her to be
poptastic and appeal to the younger side of the market while being like
Kylie. She’s very head-strong and luckily Hugh and Jeremy came to the
rescue. They know she’s a huge talent and want to work with Natalie and her
ideas.”

Meanwhile, following those reports Gareth Gates was being dropped from BMG
pop imprint S Records, word is Gates has said he wants to put his pop career
behind him and work on more musical projects, possibly going the classical
route. Well, it could work I suppose.

What the fuck? Classical career? This just screams “has-been”.
