morrissey - you are the quarry…

hey guy’s,

i got morrisseys new album this very afternoon and it is quite simply marvellous. for a morrissey solo album it far surpasses any of his previous efforts. he’s still as miserable as ever. could’ve done without the “extra special bonus limited ooooh please buy me” dvd though which contains the “irish blood…” video and that’s about it. but the album itself is great.

I’ve read mixed reviews. The Guardian’s was pretty good, basically pointing out that most of his lyrics are redundant (ie. the one about being proud of the Union Flag - Spice Girls/Britpop made that point years ago; America not being the world - like we didn’t know that already etc.)

Irish Blood English Heart is just pure fucking class! First Of The Gang To Die is pretty good as well…

Couple of duff tracks, but on the whole I really like the album. It hasn’t properly sunk in yet, but definitely a thumbs up after the first three listens.

Morrissey doing his old poser routine, but meanwhile looking like an Elvis in Vegas (concerning his weight).

yeah, i saw him on it last night. he was very good. it was a nice touch to finish off with “there is a light that never goes out”. it cracked me up when jools asked him that “knock knock” joke. for those who didn’t see it, it went thusly:

jools: “knock, knock”

morrissey: “there’s no one here, i’m not answering the door”.

classic stuff.

I Have Forgiven Jesus is amazing. (Love the lyrics).

Moz is a funny guy.

Another sniplet:

Jools: Are you concidering to get into politics?
Moz: It’s inevitable, really…
Jools: You’d make a good polician…
Moz: I’ve never been so insulted in my life
(something like that)

BK: i saw the nme with morrissey on the cover in the newsagents yesterday but, as tempted as i was to have a listen to the CD, i couldn’t condone buying nme for it. mainly due to the fact that the nme has as much taste as someone who has no ability to taste. i just stick to the nme website.

that reminds me actually of something i was meaning to post here. for anyone looking for an introduction to morrissey, you can get his fantastic compilation album “suedehead” in the HMV sale right now for a measly £2.99. that’s a bargain in anyones book.

You can get most of The Smiths and Morrissey’s albums in HMV for £4.99 each.
not_that_kind_of_guy what do you of Moz’s solo stuff compared to The Smiths?I’ve been a Smiths fan for years but its only recently i have started to listen to Morrisseys solo albums.
My favourite song off You Are The Quarry is I Have Forgiven Jesus,First Of The Gang To Die is the new single and i’m was surprised when our local radio station played it.

bad karma: i’ve never been a huge fan of morrisseys solo stuff really. the only solo albums i have are “suedehead”, “your arsenal” and the new one. but i have borrowed other albums off of people before and didn’t think all that much to them. however, i have been a big big smiths fan for a long time now. but morrissey on his own, in my opinion anyway, is no match for when he was with the smiths. as a side point, my favourite off of “you are the quarry” would be either “come back to camden” or “america is not the world”.

I’d like to see it happen, thought the last interview I read with him he was going on about being a huge fan of loads of weirdy beardy folk guitarists from the 70s

My 1st solo Moz album was Suedehead then “Your Arsenal” then i bought Vauxhall And I (which is a rather good album)You Are The Quarry and Viva Hate(which i still haven’t found time to listen to).I don’t think his solo work will ever really match The Smiths.

To quote morrissey: the only way the smiths will reunite is to kill each one of us and drag our bodies in the same room. hahhaa
