#

Started by turnandface

i read an article today i dont know if its old news but anyway.
I read that Sony Music has bought Eagle Rock
or something legally close to that.
also the orticle mentioned the imminent releases:

Çeart-Jupiter’s Darling (CD-8/04)
Cat Stevens-Majicat: Earth Tour 1976 (DVD-8/04)
Foreigner-All Access Tonight: Hits Live (DVD-8/04)
Scorpions - Moment Of Glory (DVD-8/04)
The Doors- Live In Europe 1968 (DVD-8/04)
Álan Parsons-A Valid Path (CD-8/04)
Willy De Ville-Crow Jane Alley (CD-9/04)
Therapy?-Never Apologise Never Explain (CD-9/04)

i guess that should mean a little bit better support
to the groups?

I wouldn’t bank on it. Universal bought out A&M and said to T? that they’d put them with one of their sub-labels. Then they turned around and said they had no deal!

Which I never understood seeing as universal owned ARK21 as well. Sony have ditched a lot of bands that I like so I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I hope this doesn’t mean a delay in the album release.

It’s been pretty quite on the news front lately, some news from the band would be good I think?!?

Hello…

I agree.. Just remembering what happened to the ‘artist formerly known as Prince’ who changed his name as a protest against Sony… And he also tattoeed some icon presenting ‘betrayed’ on to his cheek or something…

For those that don’t know… Sony Records recently merged with BMG, meaning two of the 5 biggest record companies in the world have become 1 (the rather cunningly titled Sony BMG). This inevitably means cutbacks of staff and bands, I’m just praying that Therapy? will be kept on board, because having a major label’s distribution (and possibly promotion) would be fucking brilliant to be honest :)

Why couldn’t they?
Of course, they will think that Isolation is about them, being such a boring town in the middle of Nowhere (wow, another one), but as it’s business they will see how well NANE will be doing and then decide whether to keep them or not.

Gütersloh in the late 90s was pure Rock n Roll. The biggest club was Rock, we were the 2nd capital of dope smokers per capita in Germany. Lots of cool young bands…

It rocked. It went downhill quickly though when I moved away :p

Anyway, then Gütersoh, now Amsterdam, you always seem to be stuck in a rat’s nest. :)

It takes some effort to think about Gütersloh when thinking about rock’n’roll. We’ll see. I only know that Alice Cooper (another Eagle artist) left Sony records due to heavy problems. I think it was about artistic freedom, and I’m sure that’s one point that’s very important for the guys.

Hmmm, maybe they could follow Mr. Cooper to his new label and start the new deal with a package tour. Imagine:

Only tonight at Gütersloh Rock City
Therapy? (known from TOTP)
special guest: A. Cooper and his dancing snake

That’s what I used to think, too, until I attempted to use it to solve my dilemma: ‘what can help me survive this terrible heatwave we’re having?’

Like the sort of fire that firemen use to fight fire? It’s a whacked out crazy-arsed idea, and I thank you to keep it to yourself.

A buy-out is BAD!!!

Sony just bought Music For Nations, and it seems effectively closed it down. Opeth and Anathema are just two bands without a label now. And MFN were the band that brought us Metallica in the UK. I worry about he majors buying the few indies left…

As far as i know Jive UK bought Music For Nations, so the label is a part of BMG now.
