Secondly, what is wrong with trying to gain new fans? New fans = more cash = tour = new album. Isn’t that a good thing?
Theres nothing wrong with T? gaining new fans i have reccomended them, this site and its free MP3’s a great many times.New fans, new tour and album are all very good things but expecting people to rush out and buy Scopophobia again is a bad thing.I bet 90% of the regulars on this board probably already own it on DVD.Is there anyone here looking forward to buying it again on DVD?

Some of you are assuming that Spitfire are releasing the new version of Scopophobia to somehow ‘trick’ the fans who already have it into buying it again. Doesn’t it sound more logical that they are releasing a ‘more attractive’ edition to convince people who haven’t already bought it to buy it this time round?
Comparing this to releasing a separate live album, or another product that the ‘real fans’ would like better doesn’t make much sense, as that would cost more money to produce, and the whole point of doing a special version of an exisiting product is to try to make some profits from it (if not, at least break even) to be able to fund future releases, tours, etc.

If people are stupid enough to be tricked into buying the same thing again, well, that’s just Darwinism in action…! But if a more attractive edition was to be released, to convinve people who haven’t already bought it to buy it again, well, it is inevitable in that case that there will be some overlap with people who bought the first one.
I guess it comes down to the perceived value of what’s new.

I think the very fact the decision to re-release this Collectors Edition of Scopophobia was a record company decision speaks volumes. If another band lets say the Darkness pulled a stunt like people would be calling them money grabbers and accusing them of ripping off the fans.I also think the fact Spitfire are now including a live CD in this Collectors Edition its aimed at more than just new fans that T? may attract with NANE,they know fine well that fans who buy all the singles/EP’s and albums will want the live CD and end buying Scopophobia again just to get it.I really hope Spitefire don’t turn into Roadrunner and start re-releasing HA in digipaks with extra bonus tracks etc.If i had known at the time that Scopophobia was going to be re-released i would not have bought it and just waited for the collectors edition. What do the band think of Spitfires decision to release this Collectors Edition?

Like most here, I think it sucks donkey’s balls about the collectors edition. I also accept it’s not the bands’ decision, and it certainly doesn’t sound like something the T? boys would do.
But the fact is, I’ve (and loads others here) already paid good money for the DVD, and on top off that I’m going to be paying close to another 200 to get to Dublin to see the gig, so I ain’t re-buying the dam thing.
But I do have a suggestion, since they’re going to pressing the live cd anyway, why not produce a few more of the cd only to sell at the gigs? The money goes straight to T? we get the cd, everyone’s a winner ;)

I have a ridiculous notion that one day, long, long from now, record companies will start listening to common sense suggestions like these from the people who know far more about the music business than they bother to learn, i.e. the fans. The fat, greasy bast*rds in boardrooms moan about how mp3 downloads and pirating is cutting into their (undeserved) profits, but they consistantly fail to give value for money and consistantly fail to give people WHAT THEY ACTUALLY WANT and what they would be quite willing to shell out their hard-earned money for. Instead, they milk the cash cow by rereleasing albums in “special edition”. Hey great, I LOVE buying all my favourite albums twice over instead of something new and exciting! Wankers!

Well said Dennis.
I think that one of the reasons a lot of illegal downloading of stuff off the internet goes on is because the record companies pull stupid tricks like this.
I’ll state here and now (not that anybody cares) that this is a rip-off. Here’s why… We’re being penalised for being loyal fans. I’ve bought a few cd’s within days of release, only to find it re-released with extra stuff on later. The Stereophonics album JEEP was the last time.
We buy stuff as soon as it comes out, then a few months later someone strolls into HMV and gets bonus stuff for being a “casual” fan. Not that I dislike casual fans, but this stuff burns me up. It’s effin wrong.

German amazon lists the re-release of Scopophobia as an audio double cd to be out at November 15.
I guess this is just a mistake and it’s the same dvd plus bonus cd as anywhere else.

Title: Scopophobia Re-Release
Folks,
Just so you get our side of the story.
Recently we heard word that a deluxe version of the Scopophobia DVD was available for pre-order online. There had been talk about such a release some time ago but the last we heard from the label was that it had been put on hold.
So you can imagine our surprise when sites started to advertise it with a release date. Anyway after a few phone calls the label have confirmed the DVD will be re-released and is part of Eagle Visions deluxe range.
The only difference is that the new package contains 2 discs, one with the full Scopophobia DVD on it and the other is an CD with the audio of the Belfast concert on it. We should point out there are NO extras or bonus tracks on either the DVD or the audio CD. This in itself means that anyone who has the original DVD package should not feel obliged to buy the second version.
As for the suggestion that we sell just the audio cd at gigs. A great idea but,as the label own those sound recordings, it would be highly illegal for us to sell it. If you want a audio cd of the show you could always find a computer with a good sound card/Soundforge and burn the audio onto a cdr.
Hope that clears some of the confusion up
