Record Industry…

#

Started by deadsetgav

Seems funny today that there has been news items all day on how the record industry is taking people to court over internet piracy as it is hurting their record sales.

The Industry totally blames a decline in sales on internet piracy - did they not think for one second that if they constantly pump out the soul-less, manufactured, turgid bullshit that they have done for the past few years, people might get a little fed up and not buy it?

I say it serves them right - its a fat, greedy lazy industry that has had its head up its arse for far to long and deserves to die smothered in its own faeces…

Since the 50’s, each decade has had great music, from rock n’ roll to the beatles/stones in the 60s to disco and punk in the 70’s, new wave / new romantic, electronica, madchester in the 80’s throught to britpop in the 90’s

Recently the mainstream industry has not bothered to support talent and develop artists - instead relying on the production line, minimal effort / maximum reward pop idol shite and the teeny bopper boy/girl cover groups. Serves you right!

Sorry - rant over, it just pisses me off how the decent bands are struggling to exist on the fringe of music whilst the big record companies are blaming everyone but themselves for their own lazy mistakes…

But its not all doom and gloom. There are literally hundreds of great youngs bands playing in every city.

Glasgow for instance has an insane amount of truely talented young original bands. Unfortunatly these days they have to sound similar to the next Strokes or NERD replica or they don’t even stand a chance.

What I’m trying to say is if you want to buy music from good bands go to more gigs and buy the CDs off the bands themselves and eventually independant music will make its mark again.

But as long as there is idiots buying the next fucking Spearsatastic or Westliferoony single, then somebody will keep making it.

Don’t give up hope people. The 0’s are going to be a decade to remember.

Oh - for sure… if people look there have always been great bands and always will be,

I was just having a dig at the mainstream and the way the industry seems to work,

It just pissed me off when i came home from work and this cunt from some record label is moaning cause he doesn’t make as much money as he used to so he is gonna sue some people!

Oh of course, just adding my crap to this rant as it pisses me off too. I used to envy Britain when I lived in Germany as the quality of the charts were so much better and not full of manufactured pop. Looking at the charts now… well it’s fucking disgraceful. Half the stuff would have been laughed at on euro-trash 10 years ago for being such shit, now everyone is lapping it up.

reminds me of rod from die ärzte who said in an interview that he doesn’t pity the record company people when they say “boo-hoo,now i can’t drive a maybach anymore” :D

and farin from the same band said on the subject, what the record companies did was like driving with no seat belt on,blindfolded and without brakes, but if anything happens, there’ll be hell to pay.

I think the funniest thing was when they wheeled out Westlife to tell “da kids” that burning cd’s was the same as dealing drugs… eh?

The big irony is that the people continously pushing this message are the ones who keep the dealers going?! No names mentioned obviously!

Speaking of copy right and file share whingers and drugs…heres a little quiz for you. Which major music and film retailer had to have their MD resign last year to save their public image and placate their shareholders after he was embroiled in an argument with a policeman which resulted him in hitting said copper, who then arrested him to find him in possesion of a rather large amount of “bolivian marching powder”?

Alledgedly, of course! ;)

This is modern Europe: everyone has the same crappy charts. We even invade britain again with our DJ Ötzi (oh wait, isn’t Austria to blame for him?).

I think burning cds really is a problem for record companies. This little community consists to a major part of music junkies (except some hopeless cases in Belgium worshipping their hairspray rock heroes of ancient times) using the internet to get to know more bands to spend their money for.
The problem is the majority of kids with their mainstream approach to music being the main target of the music biz to give their money to those manufactured pop shite. They don’t really stick to a band (except in their wet teenage dreams) and don’t care to support it. So if you’re mainly interested in people not really caring about your product you’ve got to find ways to ensure that they can only get it from you.

And just a new twist in our rant abou those baaaad record companies:
Ash had to push back the release of their new single for two weeks ‘coz they had to shoot a proper video for it, as their record company just cut together a crappy one from old scenes while the band was on holiday. Here’s the statement of the band’s manager:
“I have pulled the video. We were all on holiday and the record company made it in our absence. None of us like it (especially me)… but we’ll probably let you have it as an extra on the DVD single.”
