2004 - pretty weak year

#

Started by Superunknown

So far my albums of the year are:

Kings Of Convenience - Riot On An Empty Street
Brian Wilson - Smile
Green Day - American Idiot
Ben Kweller - On My Way
Therapy? - Never Apologise, Never Explain
Feist - Let It Die
Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Abattoir Blues/The Lyre Of Orpheus
Ash - Meltdown
mclusky - The Difference Between You And Me Is That I’m Not On Fire
Ron Sexsmith - Retriever

None of them are totally earthshattering.

Need to give “Real Gone” (Tom Waits), “Antics” (Interpol) and “The Delivery Man” (Elvis Costello) a few more listens.

And I’m still expecting a lot from “Sex, Love And Rock ‘N’ Roll” (Social Distortion), “Life Blood” (Manic Street Preachers) and “Futures” (Jimmy Eat World).

Personally, 2004 has been a bad year for me, but NANE makes a great difference. Hope to score a polar bear mask soon, and get ready for November 22nd. That’s when 2004 ends for me and 2005 starts: with a bright look into the future.

So far this year has been pretty weak but it’s picked up considerably over the past week.

I finally got by copy of N.A.N.E.- Excellent!

Also (even though it doesn’t come out until Next Week)
I’ve heard 3 songs off of the new Strung Out- Exile in Oblivion..If the rest of the album is as good as the tracks Analog, No Voice of Mine, and Lucifermotorcade, this may be the best album of the last few years!

check out the MP3s on their site. http://strungout.com/news.php

Also good this year

Pulley-Matters
Cool to be You-Descendents
The Guilt Show- The Get Up Kids (mellowing, but still a qulity release)

For Descendents standards the album is quite mediocre.

The Guilt Show is way better than Jimmy Eat World’s new album. It’s been a pleasant surprise, way better than On A Wire.

I think And All That Could Have Been is better than The Fragile, in terms of songs from that era, but I prefer the studio versions of all the Pretty Hate Machine and Downward Spiral songs.

I don’t think musically its been that bad. On the personal front, I’ve had a REAL mixed bag, but I’ve bought some good albums this year.

Therapy? - NANE(of course)
Slipknot - Vol 3
Franz Ferdinand - Self Titled
REM - Around The Sun

Add to that, loads of back catolouge stuff.

I’ve also bought some real good books this year; John King’s The Prison House, Jonathen Trigall’s Boy A, plus some older novels from skinhead writer Stuart Home and the late Hubert Selby Jnr.

I’ve bought a lot of back catalogue stuff as well,i filled the gaps in my Depeche Mode,The Clash,Morrissey,The Smiths,Fear Factory,Lacuna Coil and Marilyn Manson collections.I’ve spent a lot on CD’s this year i really need to start saving again.

A couple more good albums from 2004 are The Scissor Sisters album which i thought i would hate and The Dears - No Cities Left.
