ok, anyone can help me with that?

my modem is since two days not working and i got the message, that there’s a mistake no. 629 and that the remotecomputer broke up the internet connection.

and i didn’t find any help in that “handbook” where you can search for your problems.
and i checked everything, what it said how it should be instaled and whatever, but that sems to be everything ok.

so anyone got an idea?

heeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp! pleeeeeeeease :(

ok reading all of that, what’s standing there, just makes me cry :(
and i cannot start doing experiments with my pc now…my diploma is on it!
and of course that made troubles to today.
cause when i tried to copy my work on my zip-disk, it said, that this is impossible, cause my work would be writing protected…but i never put a writing protection on…and if you look under properties, there’s also no sign for it that there’s a writing protection.
so aaaaaaaaaaaaah!
i cannot save my work anywhere else at the moment…and cannot play to much with the pc, cause i don’t want to loose the stuff.

:( :( :(
any better idea?

Trust me on that.

Welcome to geekworld.

Just had an idea. The problem of copying may have something to do with permissions. So you should not check only if the files are writing protected but also who owns them and has which permissions (esp. if you should work on an Windows 2K system or upwards) Changing those permissions might help.
If not, use your charme. :)

whatever you do don’t take it to your equivalent of PC World (computer chains) they are shite, plus they check your computer for file sharing programs. Always take it to an independant seller, they know what the hell they’re on about and it’ll be much cheaper!

The IT department is a good idea too, probably be free! Ahhh exploiting people, isn’t it handy!?

The Devolo company took over the microlink modems from the bankrupt ELSA AG.

Drivers for those modems can also be found on ZDNet.

By the way, who still uses zip drives. Get yourself a mobile hard drive (or at least a USB memory stick), or maybe a completely new pc system. :)

i’m using a zip-drive, because at uni they use zip-drives.

but thanks for thedevolo thing.

Oh I feel your pain.

I think computers do it on purpose. They always break when you most need them to.

Sorry can’t help, my usual solution for bad PC is to kick it. Sort of explains why it breaks in the first place

one of my lecturers recommends that you have your orginal file, then back it up. Then back it up again and place the third one somewhere away from your computer for safety. Never really bothered but that might be my downfall one day

Has anyone else been suffering from ‘bargains.exe’? God knows how the little shit got on my computer but it causes ‘customised’ pop-ups for every site you visit (even worse, it’s google-proof), and really slows it down. Be warned!

i got in the meanwhile some answers from one guy from elsa and one from devolo…and both say, that they are not responsible for my problem.
the one from elsa technology seems to have nothing to do with the old elsa anymore…and the one from devolo says that they don’t give support for elsa products.

now my last chance is a computer-nerd who will come by tomorrow and see what else he can still trash on my pc…i somehow got the feeling that i have to kill my little piggy bank and get me new stuff :(…

yeah well that means no x-mas presents for anyone this year :(

Yet more computer woe for me… :(

I installed this stinking XP Sevice Pack 2 and now the nice prompt to connect to the internet when I launch IE has disappeared and all the sites in my links bar are opening in the same page instead of a new one.

Anyone know how to make it nice again?

edit: The links directly on my links bar have always opened on the same page, I mean the links in folders on my links bar. I wonder if I should say ‘links’ a few more times for good measure.

The prompt to connect to the internet should appear if you have ‘always dial my default connection’ set under tools - internet options - connections…

as for the links - i aint a clue…

of course this might not be the solution at all…

Stupid crap… well it’s correct, but anyway… how important is that Service Pack? Is it absolutely necessary that I try to install this fucking Microsoft rubbish ?
