Oh and yeah, This Is My Truth is pretty crap. Get The Holy Bible or Everything Must Go if you want a starting point for the band. They’re the two strongest albums.

The Studio version of Empty Souls has been leaked along with another new song called Glasnost and they’re very weak songs very disappointing.Glasnost in paticular must be the most bland song i’ve heard all year. Now i never expected a return to the sound of The Holy Bible and i have no problem with the Manics going in a more pop direction but all their new stuff i’ve heard so far been very dull.I really don’t think the lyrics are any good. All their recent songs seem to follow the same pattern of repeating the name of the single over and over with a few lines in between. Its a real pity because i was really looking forward to this album now i dread hearing it,i think i will just download it rather than waste money on it.I think it might be time for the Manics to call it a day.

i think “the love of richard nixon” is shite.if anyone still cares, the video can be watched on the xfm website.their costumes are hilarious, but that doesn’t make up for the weakness of the song.i really don’t know why they chose a track like that for the first single.for me, it’s just “so why so sad” part #2.and when i first heard that one,i screamed with disgust.

I’ve got a question/need an opinion.

I’ve got most of the Manics albums, and no doubt will be plugging a few holes when the usual budget back catalogue that accompanies a new release hits the shelves.

But what I was wondering was if getting the Forever Delayed with the bonus disc of remixes was worth it? As I have most of the songs already, what did more devoted Manics fans think of the extra disc?

Finally, (and I’ll probably definitely pick this one up at some stage) what did you guys think of ‘Lipstick Traces’?

I have the 2 CD version of Forever Delayed i bought it when it first came out i’m not sure if its a collectors item now.As for the remixes some of them are quite good it just depends on how much you like the Manics.I’ve seen the single edition of Forever Delayed going for £6.99 i haven’t seen the 2CD edition in a while but you will probably find a copy on Ebay.
Lipsticks Traces is a good compilation if you don’t already own the Manics singles, the two unreleased tracks Judge Yr’self(the last track they did with Richey and one of the best songs they’ve released in years) and 4 Ever Delayed are fantastic!
If you don’t already own The Holy Bible album you should hang on and buy the 10th Aniversary edition it has lots of extras, its out sometime in December.

Cheers, I’ve seen the 2cd Forever Delayed in shop recently and it got me thinking as to whether it was buying or not. I’ll probably give it a miss and for Lipstick Traces instead.

Go for Lipstick Traces, the b-sides are excellent, esp. the covers of Take The Skinheads Bowling, Velocity Girl and Last Christmas.

After the clips I’ve heard, I have to disagree on absolutely every single possible level I can. The new stuff is currently ranking among my favourite Manics material.

And get Lipstick Traces for ‘4Ever Delayed’ alone.

I think Lifeblood is a very safe sounding album for them, its not a new direction at all just a dreary retread of This Is My truth era only not as good and the lyrics are again very poor,I’ll give you a few examples from A Song For Departure “This is a song to break your heart to,This is a song for broken lovers” and from Glasnost “if we can still be in love”:eek:Thats the sort of crap you would expect Richard Ashcroft to sing. The whole album is very easy listening i imagine it will go down well with BBC Radio 2’s audience.I’m sure the tour will do alright and they will make a few more million but they’ve ceased to be interesting for me now i’ll buy the 10th Aniversary of The Holy Bible and then thats me,i’ve been a fan for ten years or so after the last few disappointing albums i’m not sure i am anymore.

It’s “safe”, maybe, but that doesn’t bother me too much. The production is somewhat different to a lot of This Is My Truth, and I like the songs, which is what matters to me.
To be fair, those lyrics don’t look too bad to me… it’s a different subject matter to what we’re used to from the group, but I couldn’t give a fuck, to be honest.
And there’s nothing wrong with Radio 2. :p
Meh, I suppose we’re looking for different things in an album. I simply think it’s a collection of really good pop songs, which is what it’s meant to be. And that’s good enough for me.

Oh those lyrics make me cringe,Lifeblood was billed as a very pop album but compared to new singles by Britney Spears and Rachel Stevens MSP come off very badly.I was hoping the album would be pop music in the vein of Erasure,Depeche Mode and New Order.None of the new songs are as good as 4 Ever Delayed. The Love Of Richard Nixion is released as a single next monday and it didn’t even make the C-list on the Radio 1 playlist T? have probably had more plays than the Manics haha. From reading your list of albums in the 2004 thread and you said This Is My Truth is crap i’m surprised you like the new Manics songs.I was reading the Manics forum earlier and i’m amazed how anyone still likes them.Nicky Wire hasn’t written a decent lyric since 1998,i think the Manics are a band well past their prime and are running on empty i’m sure they’ll make another dirge of an album after Lifeblood with the obligatory ‘tributes’ to Richey and some political figure.I remember you hated Think Tank by Blur and whereas i think its a very good album i guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree on Lifeblood;)

As for Radio 2 the Jonathon Ross show is good but i can’t stand Steve Wright.

After a couple of listens, my view is thus:
Tracks 1-6, 12: absolutely amazing.
Tracks 7-11: a bit dull.
I really love the electronic production, though, and don’t really hear the comparisons to This Is My Truth in more than a couple of places, really…

No amount of fancy production can disguise how poor the songs are, lyricwise i think Lifeblood is their weakest effort to date at least on Know Your Enemy they tried to be relevant, for all its faults (which it has quite a few)Know Your Enemy is a more daring album.Lifeblood has had some very mixed reviews and i’m not surprised.
Songs such as I live To Fall Asleep,Emily,Always/Never,Glasnost and To Repel Ghosts must rank as the most mediorce songs they’ve ever recorded.
James Dean Bradfield has a great voice its too good to waste singing Nicky Wires nonsence lyrics,i wish he would form a side project or do some solo stuff.
Its also beginning to look from the mid week sales the Manics have another flop album on their hands (Not that sales ever indicate quality) but compared to the amount they’ve sold with Everything Must Go and This Is My Truth… Sony will probably look on this as a failure.
I think its a bit sad the way the Manics have ended up they must be one of the most boring bands around at the minute and the best album that they will have released in the last ten years will be the Holy Bibe 10th Anniversary Edition.
They are already talking about making another album but it will most probably be awful, assuming they don’t split up after this tour.
