Interpol - Antics

#

Started by mr self destruct

What a class album! Even better than Turn On The Bright Lights. Interpol have got to be one of the best bands to emerge in recent years, and I’m looking forward to seeing what they do in the future.

What?

Even the first half of Turn On The Brght Lights is better than the entire Antics Album. I’m not disappointed because I didn’t expect them to top their debut.

Austrians, do I have to say more? :p

I’ve not heard the entire album yet, but it’s definitely weaker than Turn On…
But that’s really no surprise. Infernal Love also couldn’t keep up with Troublegum (though there may be people who say so).

I just read that they organised an exhibition in london with things that inspired them while making the new album. Don’t know where it’s at, but for the fans it could be interesting.

On the other hand, why bother about the feelings of someone rating Infernal love higher than Troublegum? He deserves to suffer for this. :)

I like Antics very much but its too early for me to say its better/not as good as Turn On The Bright Lights, which was my fav album from 2002.I need to listen to it more, one thing i will say is Antics lacks stand out tracks like PDA and Roland,Antics takes several listens to get into which is probably no bad thing.

After two rounds in a row for the whole album I can confirm that it’s not better than Turn On… (at least for me).
It’s still a very good album, stillhas this typical dark atmosphere, but also definitely lacks outstanding tracks aka potential hit singles. It’s more of a flowing thing, with a sort of constant rhythm throughout all the tracks.

I love Interpol too- going to see them again in Manchester in December, but so far, I’m also finding ‘Antics’ to be less appealing than ‘Turn on..’ - but i’m warming to it the more I listen to it, so I’ll bear with it :D

I agree with you that ‘Antics’ is more flowing than ‘Turn On’, its more of a complete album. Still don’t know which I like more though

I´ll get it one or two days… i think it will/is good but not really sth new compared to the old album..!?!? anyway interpol are special… and today there arent bands who have a sound like they have. joy division had.. but they already left the building.

Each to their own I guess. I think Antics works much better as a cohesive whole. As for ‘hit singles’, I couldn’t really care less about a track’s commerical appeal…but for me Slow Hands is pretty commercial and one of the best tracks they’ve written. I prefer Antics’ lyrics too, any album that rhymes “romance” with “pole dance” gets my vote :)

so finally i got it and i already got the chance to listen to it.. BUT i think its not as good as their debut.. i was amazed when i bought the debut and i couldnt wait for a second album… but their new songs are not able to rock as much as the old ones.. but the antics sounds better from the instruments

best songs are: next exit, slow hands, lenght of love, a time to be so small (which is a remake of an older record!)

anyway i hope they do better albums in future
