What’s the equivalent of the radio phone-in cliché - “long-time reader, first-time poster”?

Thought it was about time I stepped out of the shadows and said hello, anyway. :)

What to say? Um, my name’s Martin, I’m a 25-year-old Brit living in Germany, been a T? fan since ‘93 (I think it was “Opal Mantra” on Top Of The Pops that clinched it)… that’ll do for now, won’t it?

Hi, anyway. :D

No. :p

The usual newbie interview questions: favourite album, what do you think of the new album, etc.

Seeing your nick I immediately thought you were a german from the city of Mainz.
Damn you for fooling me. :D

Oh, and finally, welcome to the world’s nicest asylum.

Bah. And I woulda gotten away with it if it wasn’t for you pesky kids, etc.

Favourite album? Impossible question really, it can be anything from Disintegration or Ágætis byrjun to Strapping Young Lad’s City depending on the day, the weather, my mood, what the neighbours are playing that I have to try and drown out, etc. Favourite T? album is Suicide Pact, anyway.

Just got my grubby mits on NANE yesterday, given it a few spins now and I’m impressed. They sound tight, focused, and I reckon it’s the best set of songs since Suicide Pact. So definitely looking forward to the Hamburg gig to see how the new stuff sounds live. :)

I aim to confuse. :) I lived in Mainz for three years before moving (back) to Hamburg this year, and much as I love it up here in the rainy north, I like the “Meenzer” name so it just kind of stuck.

Thanks for the welcome. I promise I won’t accidentally raise the average sanity level. :)

A very good question 3ddo, especially when you look at some of the germans on this board. Don’t know if I would want to live there :p

As Germany’s bigger you have more places to hide yourself from those nasty people.

The album is from 2001, so you could have known it. No, you should have known it, as Sigur Ros are one of the finest bands around. Your youth is no excuse.

And to repent that hairy remark, you should sing Pavement’s ‘Cut your Hair’ at least five times in a row (if you know that song, you never know with these kids today)

The main thing is you didn’t know this wondeful piece of music and that’s a shame.

But you know a lot about German literature, as I can see. :)
Maybe, deep down at the bottom of your heart, you’d love to live in Germany. Admit it.

@roxy: Abuse is such a harsh word. I’d prefer to say we open new ways to enrich the threads. :)

I think discussing an Islandic band with a Belgian in a thread of an Englishman in Germany is a wonderful way to illustrate the new Europe growing together and, therefore, no abuse at all.
And Germans arguing about that just fits perfectly. :p

Hm, so it seems. :)

What made me move to Germany? Hm. Well, I studied languages (French and German) at uni, with no particular aim in mind. Came to Hamburg for my ‘year abroad’ in ‘99/’00 and fell in love with the place so vowed to come back here after graduation. Ended up moving to somewhere rather further south because it offered a decent translation job and some mates with a spare room, but now I’m back in Hamburg. Why I like the place so much? No idea. Maybe I just like disproving the Teutonophobic Brits thing. :)

Decent of you to answer my question after so much abuse of your thread ;). The reason why I asked it in the first place is because after having visited so many countries in Europe I decided the one place I could live besides the NL is Berlin. To a lot of Dutch, this is almost like treason!

I can imagine it’s not the kind of opinion you’d offer freely in Dutch company, no. :) Berlin is great, been there a few times over the summer and it was the only other place I would have considered moving after my time in Mainz… I can see myself ending up there for a year or two some time further down the line, if only because that’s how long it’d take to discover all the shabby pubs and backstreet clubs :)
