Douglas Coupland

After the God is nowhere/God is now here comments in HBM, I wondered how much a fan of Douglas Coupland Andy was - given that Eleanor Rigby only came out a few weeks ago, I guess that’s a reasonably big fan. DC’s new book is v cool and a top read - like T? albums, his books seem to be developing and growing up over time, which is cool for a fan. Anyone else read his stuff?

If his books were T? albums, Miss Wyoming would be Shameless.

Sorry, it’s okay, just not my favourite (which would be Girlfriend in a coma or Microserfs probably).

Met him at a couple of talks, and he seems like a top bloke & really appreciates his fans.

Andy has mentioned in the diaries Coupland several times, I think he’s a big fan. Microserfs was excellent, also liked Miss Wyoming and GiaC but I got half way through Generation X and gave up, it’s completely lame.

Again, I think it’s okay, but overrated. Shampoo Planet and Life After God were both better.

Enough said? :)

Hard to pick a favourite, inevitably… Microserfs, Generation X and Girlfriend… are all great, but I think Life After God is the one that hits hardest with me. Which also makes it the most difficult one to read, if that makes sense. Haven’t got hold of Eleanor Rigby yet - might wander into town later to see if they’ve got it in the one bookshop with a vaguely decent English-language section. Failing that, I suppose it’s Amazon again…
