Shameless or Semi-Detached?

#

Started by Bad Mother

In the spirit of the Troublegum or High Anxiety poll, which of these two do you prefer?

(Before changing the message boards’ software in August 2007 this discussion contained a poll, which may return in the future)

From my point of view, this is an easy option.

I think Shameless is really good, I think SD is really average. Nothing wrong with SD, but none of the songs really stand out for me.

If we do a bunch of polls like this for all the T? albums, then do it again for the winning albums! At the end we’ll be left with the overall winning T? album.

An official WOM search to find out which is the best T? album in the world,… ever…!!!!

why a shit question? Its just asking which you prefer, yes T? make different sounding albums to the others but it won’t always push all the switches for someone so they may like the style of another album better than the other

Tightrope Walker, Straight Life, Suing God, Church of Noise and Lonely Crying Only, pummel anything off of Shameless. Shameless has some quality songs on it but it has some weak stuff too.

And in the same vein, SD has some weak stuff too…

I went for SD anyway.

Other than Don’t Expect Roses, I’d disagree completely.

Personaly I’m going to go for Semi Detached as I felt the songs good and the production was better than Shameless, nothing wrong with shameless but SD has a bit of an edge on it.

Well I picked them because they seemed to have similar status amongst fans…

I went for Shameless. It’s a one off. I think it’s great that T? have this sort of album in their back catelogue. It’s sort of a fun glam-rock stomp. I wouldn’t want every album to be like it, but it works for what it is.

Definitely Semi-Detached. It might be my favorite Therapy? album. Shameless is my least favorite so…there :)

The songs on SD are at times just mind-blowing with their ideas, while having a core of poppiness inside I really love. Among the songs mentioned here I would like to add “Black Eye, Purple Sky”, “Born Too Soon” and “Stay Happy”. I mean, those three songs alone are so kick-ass. Damn, I got to hear that album today :)

Seriously, the only song on SD that didn’t really do it for me is Tramline, though it is still an alright song.

Shameless has some good songs, and even some brilliant songs, including the best combination of two T? songs following each other: “Tango Romeo” and “Stalk and Slash”. But the production is too clean for my taste, they should have gone a little towards Suicide Pact, but not the whole way. Shameless sounds like studio, as Infernal Love does, but only that Infernal Love is not supposed to be rock’n’roll.

Why are one or two people coming out with cracks like ‘shit question’ and ‘two of the weakest albums’ ?

If two of the so-called weakest albums can command such positive reactions and stimulate this kind of debate the what’s the problem?

For the record IMO SP-YF is weaker than these two albums anyway.

If you start ranking T?’s albums seriously, you can’t avoid having ‘weaker’ albums, i.e. albums finishing bottom on such a list.
That doesn’t say those albums are weak, it just points out that there are other T? albums I like more.
The only people having problems with that seem to be those for whom they rank much higher.
But tastes are different, so what the fuck?

I like all T? releases equally. The fact that pretty much every single one is different in its own right is even more special.

I go through stages of listening to one album alot one week, then listening to another the next. And I’m sure most T? fans are the same, am I wrong…?

Definately not wrong. Although I’m still mad on NANE at the moment. I think it’s fair to say that no two T? albums are the same and everybody’s entitled to their own view on a particular release. It just seems that some people only take a poll seriously if either their fave album or Troublegum is mentioned. If not, they view it as a pointless exercise, when really all somebody has asked is “what do you think of this…?”

A couple of my least liked songs. 2 good reasons to vote for SD over Shameless. There are several more!
