Started by Morlock in General Therapy? Topics

When Andy mentioned that Graham suggested sounding like the Strokes or Radiohead, I kinda wondered if suggestions like these are what inspired the line

“But I’m scared of giving up and being a psychedelic peace creep”

You know, I always had that Radiohead association while listening to that line (I am a big Radiohead fan), so it just clicked when I read Andy saying that.

Thoughts?

to be honest, it would be very difficult for therapy to sound like radiohead or the strokes, its a completely different sound. and i dont want therapy to change!!!

Thom is anti-militarism and anti-imperialism, but he ain’t a pacifist. There are shitloads of ‘threatening’ lyrics in Radiohead songs.

It’s in German, but here is the article where Andy says it.

Also, the “creep” reference. I don’t say that this is a definite Radiohead line, but it always reminded me of Radiohead.

No, what i mean is that i wouldnt want Therapy to change just for the reason to stay with the ‘in’ bands…
The way therapy change their sound from album to album is great, but to change their sounds to be like the critically acclaimed bands of the moment is well, selling out.
But thankfully i couldnt see therapy becoming like the strokes or radiohead, or more particularly like the many shitty pop-punk bands around e.g Good Charlotte

I think we can figure out what way Graham wanted T? to go by listening to Halite’s first album… No offence, but that is totally crap, music that you can hear in elevetors, absolutely no meat’n’bones in it.

I just realised that it was good that Graham left if that would have been the direction he’ll would like T? to lead in… It’s good that Andy & Michael has brains.

Don’t get me wrong I USED to love Radiohead, OK Computer is a masterpiece but my opinion is that they lost the plot after Kid A…

But it’s good that T? aren’t going their way and have averted that by parting company with Graham. If you have musical differences with some members of the band (it seems to have been the same with Martin) it’s better if the ‘less important’ ones (when it comes to songwriting) leave just to remain true to your style.

I didn’t think it was all that bad, to be honest. That said, I’m not that huge a “rock” fan. I’d love for Therapy? to do an album most similar to Infernal Love next, I suppose… loads of weird bits, slow tracks, electronic sections etc.

Wow how can you hate The Bends?I think they lost it after OK Computer but then again I liked the harder edged Radiohead.I bought Kid A,didn’t buy Amnesiac and got Hail To The Thief and can’t listen to it.Their turning into another REM and that to me is very boring…but hey it’s my opinion…
