I really don’t like the look of fender guitars (with the remotly possible excepton of the jazzmaster). I don’t like my brother’s Squier to play. I don’t like the ‘classic rock’ sound you get from Fenders (I geuss you could put a couple of humbuckers in there, though). Yeah, its gotta be Gibson. All the way.

Title: Fender, Oh Fender

I’m one of the Fender party. I own a Fender Mustang that I bout 2nd had for £350. It sounds unbelieveable and I’ve always thought of Fenders as being more of all-rounder geetarz: just stick them through the right pedal and hey-presto, you’ve got whatever sound you want. I really like the way they look and their necks are the perfect thickness and they sound sharp as hell. Also own a Squeir Strat. but I’ll say no more about it…

I actually really like Ibanez guitars. I had an S270 for a while, and I loved it! I probably prefer Parker over them though, and Gibson is definitly far and beyond the best. I’m curious about Ernie Ball Musicman guitars though…

Hmm. I really don’t know.

I had never played a gibson, but then again i’ve only been playing for a year [most of it on an acoustic!] But if i had to choose, I’d either use a gibson lespaul since i quite like the sound of lespauls.

Fenders are ok. Massively overpriced though. Squier´s are okay (at least the old ones). Prefer gibsons myself. All S.G´s rock. Les pauls have great sound, but the looks are…to jazzy for my taste. Got a Dean ML79. Great sound. Great looks. I would marry it if I could.

I have to say I like both. I own a Fender American Strat and I did own a Telecaster.. Problem with the Tele is it’s sound is TOO distinct, so I didn’t like it’s sound with alot of things I played. The Strat is really nice, especially switched to the bridge P-Ups and running through a Uni-Vibe…

But I also own a Les Paul classic and a Faded SG-Special. I would have to say that these two are my workhorses..especially the SG. Throw it through a BOSS MT-2 with the bottom cranked half-way… Awesome!

Also the action on the Gibsons is much more comfortable than the Fenders..

Being a foreigner (because bassist) in this thread, I can’t help noticing that most of you guys prefer Gibson. It doesn’t surprise me.

There’s really no problem with Fenders.

I own a Les Paul Junior, Gibson.

So I would choose Gibson, out of the two.

I like using guitars for different sounds, so both are cool by me :)

Fender rulesss, i owned for my eighteen birthday a mustang competition from 1969 and before i have bought a mexican telecaster !!! they are two excellent guitars and that’s why i prefer fender, but just for the story and the legend, during a KISS concert my father gathered the two parts of a GIBSON SONEX broken by paul stanley in order to light HUGE LETTERS: K.I.S.S. after the concert he had to joint the body to the neck and here he was, with a broken gibson, i still have this guitar in my bedroom but the shock was too rude and unfortunately this gibson CAN’T be played anymore, but I must salvage the two humbuckers pickup and put them in another axe.

It’s the end of the story, but I vote: Fender !!! ;)

Hello to everyone, I’m new to this board.

I am a bit of a Fender fan. I have a 15 year old Squire strat and it is a beaut. I have also had a Fender Tele for a few months and it is also a stunning guitar.

I use a Marshall TSL100 with 4x12 cab. The tele is great for crunchy punk like slf and clash, while the strat seems to drive the amp harder giving a more distorted sound.

Both guitars are great and the choice of the two give me the sound I want.

Gibson fan myself - about to get a LEs Paul Studio Platinum.

But my mate has a beautiful sounding and looking Fender Telecaster Custom 72. Humbucker on the neck, single coil on the bridge. Les Paul style controls set-up (i.e. Switch, switch position, control knob positions etc..)

Gorgeous

Check out the lp studio platinum…

Most guitar players I play with either play Gibson or Fender and I dig them both. The guy I’ve been playing with in my band http://cadillacjones.com plays a Gibson 355 from the early 70’s and it barks and it’s jazzy and everything inbetween.I love guitars for their looks(I know I’m shallow)and if I had the money I would collect as many beautiful guitars as I could.but before that I would collect as many great cymbals and snares as I could as well!:p

It depends what I’m using it for, i like fenders for lighter stuff jazzmasters are great guitars and I don’t mind a telecaster. But for bigger sounding songs then a gibson is good. It all comes down to the sound you want.

How much is this really a Fender Vs Gibson debate, and how much is it a single-coil vs humbuckers debate?

I think that could have a little to do with it, but Fender does make Strats and Tele’s with humbuckers.

But anyone’s who’d played both can tell there is a completely different feel to each, let alone the sound.

I think it’s a combo of both sound and playability.
