Any thoughts on doing something similar to livemetallica.com ? Taking the soundboard recording of each gig on the tour, MP3 and FLAC it up, and then offer it for sale over the wire?

I shall pass the idea on regardless :)

I just thought, well, you know, it’s all a business, and at a gig you are recording something that potentially has a value — and it might be possible to generate more revenue from distributing it than it costs to distribute it.

Having said that, I know the guys aren’t dumb, so they have very probably thought about this before, and there is a reason why they aren’t doing it, but hey, it can’t hurt to mention…

That’s the right attitude, Hooch.

Though the idea itself is excellent. There are also bands selling CD-Rs from the show right after them (e.g. Pixies and Einstürzende Neubauten). That might also be worth considering though it might be a bigger financial effort from the technical point of view.

True — but surely the idea is that if you set up the infrastructure to do it once (relatively large initial cost), each further occurence (i.e. gig) is (relatively) dirt cheap.

Hence $$$ that fund future studio time.

*shrug*

Primus do this too, never bothered buying them though. People also send in custom covers stuff for making cds after you’ve downloaded the setlist

Alex’s idea is fucking brilliant!!!!!

Soundboard recordings would be really great and I guess that T? would make some “extra” money with this kind of thing…

Even if this smells like [reallysmallfont] Metallica [/reallysmallfont] ;),
did you passed the idea to the you-know-who, Hooch?

I dunno, hooch trying to emulate an entire show on her own would be pretty entertaining

I’m pretty sure White Psycho was talking about emulating a _Therapy?_ show, not a JT one… :p
